Trying something new with Cernak and Sam Dickinson

Created by: StutzlesNumber1Fan
Team: 2024-25 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: May 8, 2024
Published: May 8, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trying something new other than taking the obvious choice in Parekh at #7 if he makes it there.

I know Dickinson won't likely play until the 25-26 season, but if we take him Chabby has to be moved before his NTC kicks in. Sams gotta be contending with BPA if he falls to #7 and I feel like he's a lock to be a stud and would be a NASTY left side with Sandy and Kleven.

Branny is the bridge LD until Sam comes up the following season to play with Cernak on the 2nd line. Could improve his trade value with a good season playing with a lock down defender.

Stenlund, Cernak, Jeannot, Bjug will all add some much needed physicality too.

Trades
1.
OTT
  1. Gustavsson, Filip
  2. 2025 1st round pick (MIN)
Additional Details:
I've seen Gus constantly moved on here for either a 2nd or 3rd so I'm assuming his value is a mid 2nd? Top 10 protected 2025 1st that will change to 2026 unprotected etc.

Chych + Faber as the top pair of the future would be very very good and he finally gets to play with an actual good right handed partner.
MIN
  1. Chychrun, Jakob
Additional Details:
Gus wasn't to happy with his previous stint in Ottawa, but we have new ownership and a new GM. Sens find a new starting goalie and pick up a lottery protected pick in 2025.
2.
OTT
  1. Cernak, Erik
  2. Jeannot, Tanner
Additional Details:
Lightning get an excellent young center/winger in Ridly. He can be your 3C behind Point and Cirelli, or slot him into your top 6 as a LW if Duclair doesn't re-sign. Only 21 years old but he is a pain in the ass to play against, Brad Marchand type of player.

JBD is a cheap RD option. First full year was shaky, but our whole defensive structure was complete crap but he played hard every shift and blocked a ton of shots and I expect him to continue to improve.

If the value is off I'm sorry, I was just basing it around other Cernak trades I have seen on the TBL ACGM section.

etc.
TBL
  1. Bernard-Docker, Jacob
  2. Greig, Ridly
  3. 2025 2nd round pick (OTT)
Additional Details:
Ridly + JBD + 2025 2nd in a loaded class. for Cernak. Jeannot is thrown in to free up some more space for TBL in free agency.

Sens get a big physical RD in Cernak who is exactly who we need. Jeannot is a 4th liner but he will bring a lot of physicality, he lead the Lightning in hits last season IIRC.
3.
OTT
ARI
I can adjust the value for all the trades to make it more even for all teams, just give me your thoughts below.
    4.
    OTT
    1. Bjugstad, Nick
    2. Hayton, Barrett [RFA Rights]
    3. 2026 2nd round pick (OTT)
    Additional Details:
Sens look to see if Hayton can fill the shoes of Ridly on the 3rd line, and also bring in Bjugstad to bring size into the middle 6.
    ARI
    1. Chabot, Thomas
    Additional Details:
With Sam Dickinson being picked and likely ready to play in the 25-26 season we look to move Chabot before his M-NTC kicks in. Not sure if ARZ would want Chabby, but they have the cap and Chabby would fit in nicely to their top 4.

one could definitely make the argument for Dickinson as BPA at 7, even if his upside isn't as high as a guy like Parekh or Buium. I still think I'd rather both of those guys though

I don't see the Wild making this trade.

Why are the Sens looking to offload Chychrun? Do they not think they can re-sign him?

I think that ARZ/OTT trade makes sense for both teams. Well done OP

I think a few TB "fans" are delusional. You have Jeannot as a "throw in" Julien Brisebois doesn't see him that way. Jeannot gets healthy I believe they expect around 15 g 30-35 point guy who's a physical force on the ice. Cernak is a shutdown top pairing RD those are very expensive, especially considering his contract.

Very fair. I like Parekh but we already struggle defensively and have enough offense on the defensive end~ Could definitely swap Buium with Dickinson in this scenerio.

Fair! We just have a log of lefties already which is why i trade both him and Chabot in this scenario haha.

Yeah it was very hard to gauge his value! I would definitely be willing to give up more for Cernak + Jeannot, I was just basing it off what I've been seeing.

From a value perspective, it's not terrible. Tampa fans aren't kidding themselves about Jeannot, and most of us know that he's worth a mid round+maybe late round pick at this point, at best. Cernak is much harder to move though, as while he's not a top pairing RD, he's a very solid 2nd pairing caliber defensive dman, which Tampa is in short supply of. I think Tampa declines not because of value per say, but because they need to add another capable defensive RD this summer, not lose one.

Thank you for the feedback! RD are very scarce so I wouldn't expect TBL to even move him. I just expect the Sens to strike out on a quality RD in free agency so we'll likely have to make a trade for one.

I like everything except moving Ridler for Cernak who I don't think is very good.

Big fan of the Chatfield signing, I love his game

Valid! I just kind've aimed for big and physical dudes to surround our studs on offense. Cernak and Jeannot both hit anything that moves and deal with the fighting so Brady doesn't have to do it. Chatfield I would love even if he's our #2 to pair with Chabot.

Ya I don't think we need to waste assets on Cernak.

I understand a lot of players may not want to come to Ottawa but come on if we pay up, we will be able to land one of Tanev, DeMelo, Roy, Chatfield, Pesce, or Carrier.

There are probably some other good options too.

Yeah, Tampa will also be looking at potential ufa dmen like Chatfield, Roy, DeMelo, Walker etc(or at least they should). While Cernak has had his share of injuries, he's still quite good, and logs some of the most difficult minutes, so yeah, if Tqmpa was to trade him, it wojld have to be a pretty good deal for them especially with a division rival). If Tampa had a little more depth at RD, they might consider it because of the potential of Grieg, but unfortunately, they don't. At least RD looks to be a position where there could be a fair number of ufa's this summer, so hopefully both teams will be able to add who they need there.

Half the league will be bidding on all 6 of those players, and Ottawa is literally on 95% of dudes NMC list for a reason. Big name players do not come to Ottawa.

Tanev and DeMelo should have no problem with Ottawa. Chatfield and Carrier are not big names and will come if we pay up.

Pesce and Roy likely won't come to Ottawa but I'm not interested in that bidding war anyways.

    Give me:

    Sanderson-Zub
    Chabot-Tanev/DeMelo/Chatfield/Carrier
    Kleven-TVR/Whitecloud
