Tampa declines. They don't need to downgrade at C, and they are good at LD as well. Beck and the 1st have some value, but not enough for Tampa to improve where they most need, which is a top 4 RD. The fit isn't great positionally for Tampa, even if the value here is solid.

You just decided to post a worthless comment acting as though you speak for the Sabres. You added nothing at all to the discussion. Maybe next time, add something worth discussing and you won't get similar results. The Sabres aren't good, so yes, as a player I wouldn't probably want to go there and likely wouldn't be thrilled if I was traded there is what I should have said and meant. The city of Buffalo I have no issue with.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jacketsman61</b></div><div>I would take that right now honestly. Mateychuk could be an option this year but likely starts the season in Cleveland. The Jackets also have Svozil who very well makes the Jackets out of camp. The Jackets also still have one year left of Bean and Christiansen. But Tampa won’t do it. Tampa has to know they may not even make the playoffs next season. They are in decline and should not be trading their picks away.</div></div>
Tampa still has one of the best cores in the league that still averages under 30 years old. They missed a top goaltender for nearly a third of the season and still had 98 points. Yeah, they ran into a bad matvhup and possibly the best team in the league in rd 1, but they aren't done competing if they make the right moves to address better depth and defense. Vasy being healthy, and hopefully having a better defensive structure, will also help.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CertifiedAverage</b></div><div>If Mateychuk really impresses and they get someone like Brenden Dillon in the off-season, I can see CBJ trading Provorov with 50 % retention to TBL for at least a 1st before the start of the season. I see the proposed trade as something for the TDL, since I'd imagine that they'd want to keep Danforth at least until the TDL, unless they think that he can be replaced by Brindley. My guess would be that they would like to keep Danforth and have Brindley in the AHL to start with.
All in all, I think it's a good trade for Columbus and Tampa Bay, though I imagine that this particular suggestion is more likely to take place at the TDL. But you never know.</div></div>
Yeah, I'm sure Tampa would try to make it work this summer, but if they couldn't and both teams were still interested at the tdl, maybe it could happen then. The only reason that I wouldn't see it working from Tampa's.side at that point would be because they spent assets/cap space to improve the blue line/F depth over the summer, and now they wouldn't have the room to make it work cap wise.

Soon you'll be offering 2 mil AAV on a 8 year extension.
Then you'll be surprised when he signs with another team. 😬
Why is it Stamkos ' job to solve Tampa's cap issues?
He scored 40 goals and 81 points last season. 🤔
I know Stamkos wants to retire a Bolt but JBB has to offer a fair deal here.
He's not going to knuckle under and sign a lowball contract just so Tampa can sign a few UFA's.</div></div>
Maybe not a lowball offer, but he likely will sign considerably under what he could get from a worse team to retire a Bolt. Tampa will move lesser cap hits and still sign a couple ufa's. This lineup isn't optimal, but they can pay Stamkos at least 6.5, maybe 7 ans still make the roster work fine. He's not likely to uproot his family and leave the only team he's played for, for a ~1 million aav difference for his final 3 or 4 seasons.

If Cirelli was being traded for a top 4 RD with some term or assets that could then get that player, maybe. It's also funny seeing ppl on Herr who clearly just stat watch him saying it's a bad contracts. I don't see Tampa trading him anyway, and as long as they trade Sheary, Jeannot, and maybe Perbix, they'll be able to upgrade the defense.

Tampa declines. Cirelli is a part of the core and a key member of the top 6. The only way that Tampa is listening on any trade for him is if they are getting a youngish top 4 dman(preferably RD), with term or a lock to extend in return. Neither player nor the 2nd do much to move the needle for Tampa, and while the 1st has value, it would only be to then use to flip for a top 4 RD. Since that puts all the risk on Tampa to then have to try and make another deal, all while also having to.replace Cirelli, it's a fairly easy pass.

Offseason
Offense isn't the issue with the team. The defense has been progressively worse now for 3 years. If Duclair costs 4 million, someone else can pay it. Use some of that money and the money spent on the horrid Dumba, on a real RD upgrade like DeMelo, Walker, Chatfield etc. DeMelo fits best but there will be others available. A weaker F add for the top/middle 6 will be acquired, but that's acceptable provided the defense is back to a top 10 unit again.

TBL offseason moves v5
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tjm220</b></div><div>Well, speaking as a Sabres fan they already have Thompson and Cozens as their top two Centers. Both of them make $7 million a year. Even if you’re going to use Cirelli as a number two center it means one of them is a $7 million third line Center. Not exactly a great use of capital. The third line guy who doesn’t get a lot of power play time will not see much in his numbers. Even if he’s getting Selke votes, if he’s only putting up 30 to 40 points, it’ll be hard to justify paying that much unless the cap goes up to $100 million. I’m not saying it’s right, but there were fans who got on Michael Peca‘s case while he was here for not putting up bigger numbers. And that’s the type of player we really need, a physical face off winner. I see Cirelli as a more skilled speed guy, like Most of Tampa’s roster. But he doesn’t put up the numbers that the other guys do. Probably because he’s doing all the dirty work they aren’t.
But you’re right Tampa probably has no plans of trading him anyway. And this trade is much like all the proposals around here revolving around Brady Tkachuk. There is an in-division trade penalty where teams expect more than a good player is probably worth because they have to play against him more. The Sabres would be better off looking for a third line Center From a team not in our division, that they can get for a better price than the premium an in division trade would cost.
I disagree with your assessment of both the 11th overall pick and Kulich. This year‘s draft may not be as loaded as last year, but I would have to think the first 20 players are all NHL players unless something happens to them. Kulich is a small, skill player with a great shot. He probably needs to get a little bigger just to be able to defend himself at the NHL level, but the kid is barely 20 years old. Talent like his would probably thrive in Tampa if we traded him there.</div></div>
Granted I'm not as familiar with Sabre prospects, but Kulich seems like the guy that Tampa would target if they were moving a big piece. He seems close to NHL ready, plays a solid 2 way game, and thought he had a little size. As far as the 11oa, they sometimes make it, but it's definitely not a lock. The player is also likely several years away, which is why if Tampa did trade for a pick in that range, given I believe they are still trying to compete, would likely be used in another trade to add a big name Dman or F. I think it's something like 7 or 8 of the last 20 #11 picks either made the league or seem to be trending in that direction, so it's definitely a gamble(especially in a less strong draft class). I've had more than a few Buffalo fans offer the 1st+lesser piece for Cirelli, so I upped the price given Tampa doesn't have to move him and it would be a division rival. I suppose if Tampa had another deal in place ready to go where they used thec1dt+whatever to add a top 4 dman or slightly cheaper top 6 F, then maybe. Without the 1st though, I doubt Tampa considers any offer unless a high level prospect is involved perhaps.

He is a $6 million third line Center who scores 40-50 pts a year, and if he came to Buffalo, he’d be lucky to get 30 points. I like Jeannot, but he’s a cap dump for Tampa here. But we all knew he’d never be worth what they gave up for him. This would go down as one of the worst trades in the last 20 years.</div></div>
Except Cirelli is a 2C with great defensive play. Ppl who only see his point totals don't watch him much in my experience. Tampa doesn't need and doesn't really want to move him anyway, so the only way they would is if they get a very good deal that improves their roster either through acquiring a top 4 RD with term in the trade, the assets from the trade, or the space gained from the trade. The 11th pick this year in a weak draft may have a 35-40% chance of ever being a regular NHL contributor, and Kulich does look like a probabale regular. Tampa probably doesn't move him, but this kind of deal gets them at least thinking. Lol at your "worst trade in the last 20 years", as that was either one of the best or worst jokes of the day, hard to tell.

Yeah, the only question was whether I thought Tampa would be interested more in Kulich or Savoie as the prospect. I think they would go for Kulich because he may be closer to NHL ready and he probably fits their style a little more. I could see either being in the deal though.

Tampa at least considers, as.they save a little cap space and Sturm could help in the bottom 6. They may decide not to make the trade because they already have Paul and Glendening at 3 and 4C, but if they moved some players around it could work in theory.

I just expect the Sens to strike out on a quality RD in free agency so we'll likely have to make a trade for one.</div></div>
Yeah, Tampa will also be looking at potential ufa dmen like Chatfield, Roy, DeMelo, Walker etc(or at least they should). While Cernak has had his share of injuries, he's still quite good, and logs some of the most difficult minutes, so yeah, if Tqmpa was to trade him, it wojld have to be a pretty good deal for them especially with a division rival). If Tampa had a little more depth at RD, they might consider it because of the potential of Grieg, but unfortunately, they don't. At least RD looks to be a position where there could be a fair number of ufa's this summer, so hopefully both teams will be able to add who they need there.

From a value perspective, it's not terrible. Tampa fans aren't kidding themselves about Jeannot, and most of us know that he's worth a mid round+maybe late round pick at this point, at best. Cernak is much harder to move though, as while he's not a top pairing RD, he's a very solid 2nd pairing caliber defensive dman, which Tampa is in short supply of. I think Tampa declines not because of value per say, but because they need to add another capable defensive RD this summer, not lose one.

Agree on getting rid of Sheary and Perbox, but Jeannot also needs to go. Use the 2.6 of his and the 1.2 of Hakanpaa to either get a better dman than Chatfield(DeMelo or Roy perhaps), or use it towards acquiring a better middle/top 6 F. Huuhtanen is nowhere near ready for a top 6 role yet, but by getting rid of Jeannot and not signing Hakanpaa, there's enough room for a F making 4-4.5. Tampa is fine running a 22 player roster anyway.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wrestlingfan5</b></div><div>Possibly trade perbix and jeannot to resign dumba?</div></div>
Both Jeannot and Perbix need to be gone, but not so they can waste cap on Dumba, who is terrible. Tampa should be looking at a number of RD this summer if they make it to ufa. Any of Roy, DeMelo, Walker, Chatfield, maybe Carrier if they'll get over whatever bias they have on a dman under 6', and for older possible ufa's, Tanev perhaps on a shorter deal. If they look for more expensive it would be Pesce or Montour maybe, but they won't have that cap space available. DeMelo is the best target by far, as Tampa needs a good defensive RD. Roy and Chatfield would be the next top options(again maybe Tanev), that Tampa should also look at. They definitely need to add someone, but luckily, this summer is shaping up to be a good one for that position.

They had/have some overpriced guys, but a good prospect pool so hopefully, they will turn it around sooner rather than later. I didn't love the Hertl trade(thought they'd get more), but they seem to be on the right track. Tampa I'm sure would pay a 4th or so to move Sheary, but not both. Jeannot only has one year left so I'm sure Tampa could get something positive for him, even if just a mod round pick.
