From Chaos to Order

Initial Creation Date: May 12, 2024

Description
Some of the asks for Brady Tkachuk have been outrageous. Jack Hughes? Nemec, Mercer, 1st plus?

Normally these types of deals follow a similar formula around a player, a prospect and a pick. Even for top players. There are some deviations, and sometimes GMs can get creative. But I believe a package like what is below is about right…and similar to what Jack Eichel and Rick Nash both got. It will be big. But two sides still gotta agree.

When suggesting a trade, I would encourage people to look through previous trades and find one that returns whatever it is they are asking for. Below are a few for food-for-thought. (Obviously not a complete list)

Timo Meier (2023)
Matthew Tkachuk (2022)
Jack Eichel (2021)

Sens decline.

If there is a trade it’s going to be Nemec + 2nd round pick .

If not , the Devils aren’t getting him

Holtz sucks . He has the value of like a 2nd round pick at this point. He’s a throw in this deal.

Marino does nothing for ottawa if they move Brady . They’re gonna get worse and a few years of Marino is worthless

“Starts at Jack Hughes”
“Wouldn’t take Hischier for him in package”
“Nemec, Mercer, 10th overall plus”
“Timo, Nemec, two 1sts”

That sounds about right for Brady (if he was available which he isn't). 10 OA, a solid 2nd pair RD, a solid young NHLer with upside

This ACGM is about what I’d expect a Brady Tkachuk trade in IRL to look like, especially with no salary retention. OTT fans can complain all they want, but the fact of the matter is they have zero control of the situation. I have zero control of the situation as well, but I’m pretty sure Devils management knows what they have in Simon Nemec. I’d rather pass on it though. These resources are better spent on a goaltender. I’m not convinced that VGK will retain salary on Adin Hill. I’d really just rather find a winger in unrestricted free agency and not part with all that treasure for a winger.

It’s not enough quality and everyone knows it . Why are we accepting 2nd line players ceiling players for our top liner.

Building a mid team is the goal right?

I get the Senators fans reactions to all this talk about Brady trades…but their demands have been a bit looney tunes.

Agree on trade price. If it is done at or before 2024 draft so Ottawa could get top-10 pick, Marino is a good bet as roster player since his NTC has yet to kick in. If they want Mercer instead of Holtz, it probably moves to 2025 protected 1st.

Marino, Holtz, 2024 1st, cond pick
Marino, Mercer, 2025 1st

Both fall in line with values from previous trades.

The fact of the matter is that the Senators organization should be able to develop a premier right shot defenseman of their own. If we assume they take your proposal, they can pick Carter Yakemchuk at 7 or 10.

If their fans are not confident they can develop a top tier prospect into a top tier player, it says a lot about their faith in the team.

I think Brady Tkachuk will be slightly redundant to Timo Meier however. The devils could probably find a player that’s 75-80% of Brady Tkachuk in free agency at a cheaper cap hit. Goaltending for me is the priority this offseason and I’m not convinced at all that Vegas will retain on anyone’s salary.

None of those pieces are as good as Brady. You’re mad undervaluing who Brady and what he brings. You’re hilarious and dumb at the same time

100% agree

Get a goalie, another dman, maybe a young 3C to develop…and a couple thumpers in bottom six.

Nemec isn’t going anywhere. Two more years on ELC. Senators would be adding a lot.

We have plenty of pieces to put together a competitive bid for Brady, if needed. Especially with #10 pick included.

If the senators cannot build a competent team with Tim Stützle, Jake Sanderson, and the players they pick at 7 and 10, they have their own problems. This desperation for Simon Nemec screams to me that OTT fans are not confident at all with how their organization drafts players.

I know John Marino probably would have to be included in this trade, but I like him as Luke Hughes’ defensive partner. The harder part of roster construction is finding players to complement the star players. Just because John Marino doesn’t move the needle as much as Brady Tkachuk, doesn’t mean he isn’t important.

I like Marino with Luke too. And people underrate his offensive skills too…as he is full capable of adding to rush game. On the flip side, he is probably a very good partner for Chabot as well.

But if Sens are going full rebuild…they may be better off asking for Casey. Especially if Chychrun is leaving.

A bust, a 2nd pairing RD who I like but he’s a 2nd pairing guy, and 10th overall in a relatively weak draft.

Bust is a little too over the top tbh
The guy is not getting playing time anywhere near with the talent that he should be. And still he's producing with Nate Bastian and Macdrmid Olas linemates. Sure should he be better probably. I'd honestly not make this trade and see how he fairs under the new regime, he can always be moved. And if you guys suck again Brady will put pressure on to do something. If so, give us a call.

No calls to be made without Nemec, I’m sure one of the other 15 teams who’d call about Brady would beat this offer anyway.

The moment Brady Tkachuk asks for a trade, the price to acquire him declines. He has good personal reasons to want to be in New Jersey. He’s childhood friends with the Hughes brothers, his partner is from New Jersey and Tom Fitzgerald is his uncle I believe.

If Brady Tkachuk asks for a trade, NJD and FLA will be his two preferred destinations. Brady Tkachuk is not a need for the roster at this time. I’ll wait for the price to come down. OTT fans are overvaluing their player. They really need to take a look in the mirror; the core they value so much has not even played in a single playoff game. They clearly need to make changes but none of their fans wants to move off a major piece of the lineup.

Sounds like exactly what Sharks fans thought about Meier.

Tkachuk will not be traded.

But, in the event where he hits the market (him demanding a trade), sens fans will be very disappointed in the return like every single other time trades like these happen
