Think Big
Actually pretty interesting (to me, anyway) ... but only if the Habs would retain 50% of Anderson's contract. Even then though, is the guy selected at 5th OA going to be so much better than the guy selected at 10th OA that a swap of Holtz and a 3rd for Anderson makes sense? Probably not.

Get it done Kent
Not a very good offer for Farabee. He got his 50 odd points playing less minutes than should have gotten those points. Harris and a late 1st feels underwhelming. The Flyers also do have Travis Sanheim, Cam York, Nick Seeler and Yegor Zemula as left shot D, not sure if Harris is that great that he'd be an upgrade for them, but I'll admit I don't know much about him.

Perhaps the Hurricanes would offer one of Honka or Heimosalmi then in place of Morrow. If Morrow is the key piece for Vancouver, then he's a key piece for Carolina. Nikishin, I've read, is one of the best prospects any team has, period, but is a left shot, out of the current discussion for me, which revolves around righties.

Van - Car No Jarvis involved relax Cane fans
I'm not sure the 'Canes want to run with three NHL quality goaltenders, and the Canucks will definitely want insurance in case Silovs isn't able to handle the rigors of starting duties with 55 or more regular season games next season. Furthermore, Scott Morrow is, by all accounts, an excellent right shot D prospect that the 'Canes should want to keep, as Burns is almost 40 years old and Pesce probably isn't returning.
Whatever one thinks, perhaps a more realistic deal could be Demko and Podkolzin for Necas and Kochetkov, with tweaks based on whatever one thinks the value is. The Canucks can then maybe sign Pesce as a UFA instead of bringing Myers back. Possibly trade Hronek for a pick and a different, cheaper puck-moving blueliner so they can also afford to re-sign Zadorov, who has been nothing short of clutch for Vancouver this playoffs.

Will Carolina move him
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aedoran</b></div><div>I'd do this. I saw a post this week where some Habs fans were convinced Matheson for Necas was a fair trade.
I've also seen a bunch of Carolina fans saying they weren't interested in futures because they are already in their window. That one makes sense but who knows.</div></div>
I didn't hear it myself, but allegedly E. Friedman said the Hurricanes don't plan on bringing Necas back for next season. Which means he'll be traded at some point before 2024-25 begins. Necas fits perfectly with where the Red Wings are at for multiple reasons, but I agree the Hurricanes will probably not want futures only, unless they're confident they can do a roster overhaul on the UFA market. Guentzel will cost a lot to re-sign if they go that route, and they'll need to replace Pesce on the blueline too as he'll probably price himself out of there.
Detroit should find out what it would cost to acquire Rossi from Minnesota. No offense to Compher, but maybe he'd be better as a defensive 3C, letting Rossi grow as their 2C behind Larkin. By the time Compher and Copp are off the books, Rossi should have hit his stride and then some, and Danielson should be in the NHL too.

Jets acquire Andersson v3
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MoxNix</b></div><div>If they're trading Andersson they probably want a pretty good young roster player with some size as part of the return.
Don't forget there's talk of Calgary moving to the central division next year which would make Winnipeg a divisional rival. Personally I don't like that idea at all but it has a lot of momentum around the league. IMO they should keep Vancouver, edmonton, Seattle and Calgary in the same division. They already have some of the worst travel schedules in the league. Moving one of them to another division would make it worse for the 3 remaining teams. Calgary would have the absolute worst travel schedule in the entire league with Winnipeg at 1,332.9 km away being the Central Division team that's closest to Calgary.</div></div>
Yeah I can't imagine how that's getting any traction.... not only would the travel be horrendous for Calgary, but essentially taking away the Battle of Alberta from the playoffs unless Calgary miraculously gets the correct wild card spot with Edmonton winning the Pacific would be a stupid, stupid move. But I doubt Bettman gives a **** about that, they're Canadian teams.
Why the hell can't Utah stay in their division? They just moved further east but Bettman wants to fellatio the new owner by giving his team an easier travel schedule? F***ing ridiculous.
Edit: my geography clearly sucks, Salt Lake is pretty much due north of Phoenix, but Utah is still better suited to play in a division with those other south central American teams than Calgary is. Calgary to Nashville: 2,728km .... Salt Lake City to Nashville: 2,242km by plane ..... Calgary to Dallas: 2,471km ... Salt Lake City to Dallas: 1,609km by plane

Man, I think I figured it out... since the Sabres have Byram now, I wonder if they would ever, ever, ever, ever accept Andersson and Calgary's pick, 9th OA, for Owen Power... damn that guy would be great for Calgary. But I kinda doubt the Sabres would consider that to be enough for their Hedman clone (not there yet, but he's still young).
Dahlin - Andersson
Byram - Jokiharju
Samuelsson - Clifton
Actually, I can guarantee they won't want to trade their big boy Power unless a higher pick was involved with Andersson. He's likely to be that good.

Even if Buffalo wouldn't want to, I don't think Chicago would either. They have plenty of draft capital, and are going to seek to add some roster pieces, at least up front to help Bedard. Murphy is an underrated defensive defenceman, but on top of that he is an excellent team guy and mentor for the young guys, lots of leadership. He is the penultimate partner for Kevin Korchinski right now to help his development, with Vlasic and Jones being the top pairing. Losing him for another player who may or may not make the team in a few years probably isn't on their agenda.

Jets Sell Pionk and Buy Anderson
Andersson, when on his game, can be really sneaky good offensively, exits the D zone well, skates reasonably well, and defends well, more of an all-around first pairing guy, certainly not on the level of Makar or Heiskanen, or Morrissey, but, say, John Carlson comparable, without the power play of Ovi, Backstrom, Oshie and Kuznetsov of years past to pad his assist stats (if you account and adjust for age). Perhaps prime years Tyson Barrie with the overall defensive part figured out, and a little less of a power play QB than Barrie or Carlson were.
What I see as potential weaknesses is that he seems to have these streaks where he gets frustrated and his game suffers, sometimes you can see it on his face. When things aren't going well he can tend to pout a little bit instead of stepping up and taking a game over.
I think the Flames would want a defenceman in return, and honestly, I'd want an offensive minded left shot D, we have a lot of grinders and 3rd pair ceiling run of the mill lefties in the system, but not many offensive lefties (Poirier and Etienne Morin perhaps), and a Hanifin replacement would go a long way. Instead of Kupari, maybe Ville Heinola could spark his game in a new organization. His production and plus minus in the A dipped this year from the previous year, but what's the reason? Is he turning career AHL, or does he still have a shot?
Other than that, I don't mind Lucius and Iafallo and the picks. But I think it would be hard for Kupari to crack this team and stay when Rooney was a solid penalty killer this past year for us. The Flames are a "you have to prove it first before we give you the chance" kind of team with the owner's playoffs every year directive. Maybe in a few years but by then he'll either be a bust or established somewhere else where he'll get proper ice time.

My 2nd Ehlers idea
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HighlightrEhlers</b></div><div>Tbh it’s not a bad trade all in all. I feel the Jets might want a single more impact player in return rather than 2 pieces.
However my bias would never allow me to approve a trade involving Ehlers, he is my favourite player and the moment a team utilizes him properly he’s going to be a 40/50 top line winger if healthy.</div></div>
So hard to make good, pure hockey trades, usually the teams are too at risk of digging a fresh hole to fill in the original one. I think the Rangers would love him, and he would look amazing with Kreider and Zibanejad, but to get a singular impact player in return would demand, say, a Kreider, which wouldn't make the trade useful for New York. Chytil and Kakko is what I came up with there.
It will be very difficult finding the right team and mix. Parayko would be nice, but that would create a big hole for the Blues, which they would likely have to trade Buchnevich to fill, which makes it moot and pointless, as they want to re-sign Buch anyway.

My 2nd Ehlers idea
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HighlightrEhlers</b></div><div>I missed the Samoskevitch part. My bad. Given he is solid middle 6 forward this trade almost makes sense. However, I think Winnipeg is either resigning Monahan or putting Brad Lambert on their 2C spot, Winnipeg is more likely to trade Ehlers for a defenseman.
Also, Ehlers value goes far beyond his point production. Over the past 5 years he has been one of the most offensively efficient players in the NHL, around top 10, with elite possession metrics and decent defensive play. He is far more valuable than your average 60 point winger. Bennett’s regular season output would be a huge downgrade. Also, Sam isn’t getting away with much of the stuff he does in Florida in Winnipeg without the Panthers whistle favour.</div></div>
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Ehlers isn't a great talent, but browsing his playoff stats over the years, they aren't that good, all things considered. Bennett has noticeable edge to his game, and even more so when it counts. Career totals, Bennett not only plays tougher generally, but has .657 points per game in the playoffs, which would be higher had he not ironically put up only 3 points in 10 games the one year he had his best regular season output, Ehlers has .378, and just doesn't have that physical edge, not to harp on the issue. I can't comment on the likelihood of him getting more calls in Winnipeg, I can't see into the future that way. But, 20 fewer regular season points aside, every team that has success in the playoffs has guys that play with that edge, that knocks the other team off their game with either their sheer talent (looking at Wyatt Johnston this year, MacKinnon, Kucherov and Point in the past), or with their grinding game that gets in their opponents' heads (Jamie Benn for Dallas, Sam Bennett and Matty Tkachuk on Florida, Marchand in Boston). It feels like the Jets just lack that once they reach the playoffs, and Monahan isn't going to provide that. Lowry does a decent job in the intangibles department, but it's not quite on the same level to me. If only Big Buff could be resurrected as a young player again.
Lambert is the dark horse I suppose, just because he is always touted here and I don't know anything about his game.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HighlightrEhlers</b></div><div>That is stink value for Ehlers. He is much more valuable than Bennet yet we’re giving up Ehlers and an early second? No way.</div></div>
What on earth makes you think Ehlers is so much better than Bennett?? Ehlers may get more points, but if you conducted a poll asking who you'd rather have on your team for a playoff run, Bennett takes it no question. No offense, but your response sounds incredibly homery. I know it's difficult to be objective when your team is involved but c'mon, a little taste of reality now and again is helpful.
Edit: you also failed to mention the 1st round pick Samoskevich being involved. Your Jets apparently don't need too much help making the playoffs, but doing anything once they're there requires the right players. Ehlers vs Bennett as playoff performers? It's easy.
People thinking the players on their favorite team are untouchable gods can get tiring sometimes.

My 2nd Ehlers idea
Italics are RFAs or UFAs.
The Jets acquire their tough as nails, playoff performer 2nd line center in Sam Bennett, along with a right wing prospect who may be ready to crack the lineup for 2024-25.
Connor - Scheifele - Vilardi
<em>Perfetti</em> - Bennett - Appleton/<em>UFA</em>
Niederreiter - Lowry - Samoskevich
Barron - Namestnikov - Iafallo
The Capitals: this is the dicey part of the deal for me, have to assume they will try and make the playoffs again for Ovechkin. Acquire Ehlers for that purpose at the expense of McMichael and a decent prospect. They'll have to move a guy like Jensen to fit things in. Oshie may be off the books if he retires on account of his banged up body, otherwise he plays 3rd line to guide along Miro.
Ovechkin - Strome - Ehlers
Milano - Lapierre - Wilson
Miroschnichenko - Protas - Oshie
<em>Malenstyn</em> - Dowd - Sgarbossa
The Panthers: Also dicey but I'm not sure how to make this trade perfect and even for all... they may look to shed a bit of salary to be able to re-sign Reinhart, Montour, and the other guys they'll need to fill out their roster. While only saving around $2m with this deal, they still save, and get a good young center to replace Bennett, a decent prospect in Dube, and an early 2nd round pick in this year's draft.
Rodrigues - Barkov - <em>Reinhart</em>
Verhaeghe - <em>McMichael</em> - Tkachuk
Luostarinen - <em>Lundell</em> - Sourdif
<em>Lorentz/UFA - Cousins/UFA - Lomberg/UFA</em>

If the Flames want to be in any playoff discussions at all come February/March 2025, they will for sure unless they get an offer that's too good. I am in favor of a more robust "re-tool" though, I'd definitely do things differently than Murray Edwards is demanding Conroy do. Let's say Hunter Bru...Brz...Bruzste....... Supposing the Jets combine this with a deal with Kent Hughes, who is fine playing the long game with the Habs. On top of this, what do you think of Rutger McGroarty for David Reinbacher, one for one. Reinbacher may even be ready to break into the NHL as early as 2024-25, while McGroarty will wait another year before joining those ranks, but still gives Hughes what he wants in an excellent forward prospect that can play either center or wing, while still having plenty of good D prospects.. Hughes may even decide to draft a right shot D at 5th OA in this case to replace Reinbacher in the system.

I get that going with Miller and then... I guess... well who else at center? Schmaltz used to play the position, but pretty weak depth down the middle without Petey. Having said that, Keller, Schmaltz and a large bottom six center isn't the worst offer.
