It is very common for teams to allow a players agent to talk to interested parties. However that has no say in trade value as the player is extended or not after the trade is made. Conditional re-sign picks are illegal so any player within 1 year away from UFA is considered a rental in trades. Just look at the Lindholm return, he hasn't signed an extension in Vancouver yet

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mortarhead</b></div><div>and ...why not?</div></div>
Because it doesn't make them Cup favorites but more importantly, it leads to a short window to compete. Sooner rather than later, they will need a 2C and secondary scoring will likely be an issue, soon enough Pietrangelo's contract is up/he's not as effective anymore and they would also need a 1RD. Their prospect pool isn't deep enough for them to hope to have potential solutions. At that point, Matthews is 1-year away from FA, and is probably sold as a rental for pennies on the dollar, might as well deal him now for a king's ransom.
If you're trading Marner for older defensive help, better be getting a top 6 F as well, preferably a C. If they could, the Leafs would be better off trading Marner for Theodore + Karlsson or Buchnevich + Faulk than trading him for Pietrangelo.

I was leaning no, but we can probably turn around and flip either of those guys easier than it is to move Fabbri for anything of value.

Both of those guys have decent positive value. They could actually get roster spots too. Also saves us cap. Robertson could actually get time at 2/3LW and Lily on the right side.
Defense like this:
Walman - Seider
Edvinsson - Roy
Chiarot - Liljegren
Could move on from Petry. Lily could be a powerplay option for us.

Sharks won’t move Ferraro for that offer.
I expect them to name him Captain of Couture retires within ~ 1 year.
LW is too full for the Sharks prospect system to add Robertson (they need to give Gushchin and Bordeleau a shot; otherwise they’re wasted).
I personally believe SJ has actually raised their price of Ferraro compared to lowered - doesn’t mean it’s a fair price for other teams.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mortarhead</b></div><div>whats the deal with Wright?</div></div>
He's been blocked the last two years from being a top 6 forward. His last call up after they traded Wennberg he got to play with some talent (Eberle and Schwartz) and put up 5 points in 5 games. He looked a lot more confident than in his time with the team last year (22/23) and his call up earlier this season. The 2C role is his to lose in the pre-season.

Of course. As do I. The difficult part with trading is getting the stuff lined up right. But I think for all teams in all sports getting the value right is the most difficult part. Both teams either have to feel like they won, or that they both lost, for it to be a fair trade.
And now with the coaching change in Seattle it will be interesting to see if RF changes his thought processes and opinions on trades.

get more hard hats
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mortarhead</b></div><div>what are their needs? arent they building through young players? honest question</div></div>
Good question. RF traditionally builds teams through drafts. During his time in Carolina and now Seattle most of his deals are for draft picks and not prospects. The course for the team right now is get through the contracts from the expansion draft and find the star players organically rather than trading for them. Essential players (Eberle, McCann, Dunn) and RFA's without arbitration tend to be the focus at the moment. So the needs are draft picks and top RHD as they don't have a replacement on the team or on the farm. Most of the offers here have been for 2nd or 3rd pairing D's.
My guess is this off-season either Tanev or Gourde will be moved - Probably Tanev. And they will still look for a 3rd/4th line center (Bring back Wenneberg on a better team deal?) But I don't see them moving on from Larsson until they are eliminated from the playoffs, and Larsson can't be re-signed, at the trade dead line. Cost at that time will be a severe over pay from a team looking for a top end RHD.
Most of the offers from TML fans comes down to the undervalue of Larsson and over value of what they think could get it done. Asking Seattle to trade Larsson would be like Seattle asking for Riley in return for some of the guys on the Firebirds. Neither are close to what the teams need. Does Seattle need offense? Yes it does, but not at the cost of what the team is built around in defense. For that alone I don't think Toronto has available what Seattle would be looking for if they chose to move Larsson.

It's not really about "hard hats", more so just passionate players. Our guys lack passion. When the camera pans to Montgomery talking to his players, they are engaged and eager to listen. Then, we pan to Keefe, and it's just dead air. Nobody cares. My dad and I are a pretty extreme Toronto household, and I literally told him 3 years ago that we'll never win a cup with this core. I still believe it.
Good players bleed for their teams. EK played through the entire playoffs with a broken foot, Bergeron played with a punctured lung, Bishop played with a torn groin, Thornton played with a torn ACL... hell.. Tkachuk was literally bed ridden after last years playoff run.
I'm not saying our guys have to play through bad injuries... but leaving the game due to an illness? Really? Jesus christ, man. Pop an advil cold & flu and get back on the ice.
And Marner whining and throwing his gloves. Hey man, you're invisible 80% of every game. That's on YOU.
Watching JT physically hurts cause the dude can't skate anymore, he's becoming more a liability each passing game.
Nylander is the only one who can drive the play in the playoffs and everyone wanted him gone last year. good god.
It's so pathetic. This core blows.

Yeah look I’m super not opposed to Marner personally (though there are some Ducks fans who are just because of the $12M he wants).
To me the problem is what value is be willing/able to give as ANA
1. I wouldn’t give up a single piece of the core for him (Leo, McT, Z, Gauthier, Terry, Zell, Minty, Zell, ‘24 ANA 1st).
2. Half our vets have outright said no to TOR (Gibby, Gudas, Fowler)
3. He’s a pending UFA, so while there’s hope he’d re-sign in ANA if he’s waive for us, there’s nothing concrete, which hurts the value I’d give up mid-rebuild
Would I do Vatrano, Lacombe, and the EDM 1st? Totally. Would TOR though?

1,000% but you really think his ask is $15M? If he’s comparing against Matthews, that’s $13.25x4, and he’d know he’s a step down from that. So that’s like 12.5x4, or close to Nylander on a long term which isn’t team shattering.
Agreed it’s still a tough one to take on right before dishing out all our post-ELC deals though

Noted on $12. For Gibby and a late 1st I’d go for it as ANA. But in reality this is super farfetched because the odds of Marner waiving for ANA are low, and the odds of Gibby doing so for TOR are even worse, let alone trade values etc

Leafs get some cap relief to offer them freedom to invest in other areas, get a bonafide number 1, and some draft capital..they move from a dimunative fwd that doesnt move the needle for them from a championship perspective in the process..Marner is a great regular season player but he isnt gonna help us in winning a cup imo
Lillypad isnt built for the playoffs in the east either and Jarnkrok leaving creates space for a cheaper player to fill his roster spot.
what is your logic</div></div>
Sure the leafs gain cap space, but in my opinion they’re not getting good value in return for those 3 players. You’re trading an elite wing, a good right shot d, and a good bottom six player for a late first, a late second, and a goalie who hasn’t been good in 5 years. That’d be a bad return for Marner alone.
