That is a really weird take. He was good in Arizona and good in Ottawa. No one's saying he's a bonafide 1D right now, but that's a guy who can put up 15-20(+) goals and 40-50(+) points from the backend while also being pretty solid defensively. Why on Earth would you want nothing to do with him?

But that's the issue with the Leafs, they never adapt,

The players don't, the coaching staff doesn't and management doesn't either... That's why they are in this mess

One playoffs above a PPG... Nobody gets a pass for having as long of a RD1 drought as they do....

Notice that I named players from many different teams and could have kept going on with that list. But anyway...

I have a comparable for you. From strictly a coaching point of view, Toronto and Edmonton were similar in that Keefe and Woodcroft. I feel similarly about Woodcroft to how I feel about Keefe but the difference has been is McDavid and Draisaitl have been showing up regardless of who is coach.

We'll just have to agree to disagree with the discussion of core guys making a difference.

What are you talking about, Matthews, Domi and Bertuzzi all have 3 points which is the most of anyone on the team. More than either of Marner or Tavares, and both of them combined are payed less than Marner or Tavares. And they just look more dangerous out there. You watch the game and you notice that line, which can’t be said about the second line

Genuinely thought with the new “playoff style editions” would be the difference maker. And they’ve been pretty good (a few dumb penalties). It’s the core not being able to score that’s the problem. There is no justification for not trading Marner and maybe Tavares (although no one is taking John Tavares, even for free, so that’s why it’s probably better just to ride out the last year of his contract).

PS: as much as it needs to happen that we trade Marner, I’m fully expecting them to resign him. This is the same crap we’ve seen year in and year out. I’m so sick of it.

I wouldn’t say finishing is what they need, more they need playoff scoring. If you look at the last 4-5 years, their problem has not been defence, but offence. They need guys who can score in the playoffs, in crunch time. As for who they should target, I don’t really have a wish list or anything but I do know I want playoff scoring

A RHD for Rielly would be nice for sure but people overrate how much they need one. It’s not their biggest need. If I had to choose between getting a proper starting goalie or a proper top pairing RHD for the leafs, I’m picking the starting goalie easily.
