Leafs Prospects, Draft Picks and More
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>One difference the Avs and Knights have won the Cup and have other longer playoff runs. Leafs just one playoff round win, and worse few quality picks in the 24, 25, 26 drafts and what have the Leafs got to show for it.....McCabe for one more. season. Leafs prospects pool in ranked in the lower 20% . I just can't figure how anyone can say, the Leafs trades/draft have helped the team in the past six years.</div></div>
For all competitive teams thats what you got to do.
Look at VGK this year went all in and lost R1 but won a cup the previous year doing almost the same. TBL goes all in almost yearly besides this one making crazy trades to try and get more cups.
These are the gambles you pull but as a competitive team you need to do em. Yes you dont need to go all in but you need to give the boyz a chance. Dubas did it last year and it got them to R2 but then the big boyz decided not to show up till they were down 3-0 and we know what happened
And lets say Leafs didnt make trade what good would these prospects have done more so than the players traded for?
ROR, Muzzin, etc were all welcomed additions but the problem wasnt with them it was the big 4 not doing much when needed besides Willy.
In the end were not a wait and see team were a go for it now and win as we got Matthews in his prime rn
We still have Cowen, Minten, Grebyokin, Knies, Robertson, etc were fine
Should not be focusing on the prospects (except Cowen) should be focusing on the now

In general what competitive team stockpiles picks or prospects rather than trade to try and win
VGK has basically trades almost all their first rounders and won a cup
Avs traded picks and prospects won a cup
Like I cant blame our GM's for trading for stuff to try and help this team but the core basically went thanks but how do we score again?
Once the core problems fixed and 1 or 2 are gone and we got space to continue building were set
2025 -2027 is gonna be a very interesting time for TOR thats for sure

<strong>I disagree that isn't a big deal. Leafs have only two players on their ELCs...cheap cap. If you can get players on the ELCs playing above the their cap, it's a great way to manage the cap. But no the Leafs every summer sign some over the hill aging UFAs to minimum contracts or so who have positive effect on the team.</strong></div></div>
Thats the norm for competitive teams. They dont just load up on ELC's in their lineup besides pressbox extras after their AHL affiliate get eliminated
Look at all the teams currently in playoffs
CAR: Jarvis, Drury
NYR: Rempe, Brodzinski, Cuylle, Schneider
FLA: Lundell
BOS: Beecher, Brazeau, Lohrei
EDM: Holloway
Van: Aman
Dal: Johnston, Lundqvist, Harley, Stankoven
Avs: N/A
TOR has rn: Knies and Robertson up with guys like Cowen, Minten, Grebyokin, Tververg, Niemela knocking on the doorstep thats comparable to whose in the playoffs still rn.
Look what the Avs have been doing or VGK trading away these guys in an attempt to win now. They keep some but most of their picks, prospects, etc are gone to win Lord Stanley

The issue is TOR has to many goalie prospects through their system
Hildeby, Cavellin, Akhtyamov, Peska
Crowding has already been a problem and if TOR goes and trades for Saros its gonna be even bigger

Leafs 2024 2025 Offseason Discussion Part 1: Kill or Be Killed
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafsfan98</b></div><div>Holl got 3.4 mill because he was a RHD... That has nothing to do with the LHD Zadorov...
Again... Bert had 10 points in 7 playoff games: 5.5 on a 1 year deal
Domi had 13 points in 20 playoff games: 3 mill on a 1 year deal
Mikkola (Big and strong and 2 points in 7 playoff games): 2.5 mill
Teams aren't as jumpy as you think</div></div>
Mikkola is not a good comparable to Zadorov. If anything Mikkola is more of a comparable to Holl at the time. Plus remember FLA tax takes 1-1.5m off the next deal
Look what Chiarot got from DET or Gudas got from ANA
Caps going up and teams want these big physical guys who can PK, move the puck here and there, and add something to the playoffs
He's getting 5m from someone especially after these playoffs.
As for the Bert and Domi theres context. Bertuzzi came here as the big long term deal was not out there from BOS or anyone else and for a while he almost made us regret it. Domi yes took less term and money to come but thats a whole different matter
Van will look to keep Lindholm and will probs extend him and let Zadorov go as he's gonna cost them to much. As Lindholm really dont have a big reason for a prove it. If he wants it why not just stay and do it in Van lul

I don't see the Canucks affording him and Hronek...
<strong>And Z's unlikely to get 5.</strong>.. Teams don't put enough stock in playoffs to pay 1.75x... Kind of like what happened with Bert
The games would go:
Woll: 41
Stolarz: 30
Hildeby: 11
And the Marner deal would be picks and prospects based in this scenario</div></div>
Why would Lindholm need to take a Bertuzzi type deal. With the playoffs hes having Van will probs pay him 7.5m with term
Holl got 3.4m and was dog**** in the playoffs
Zadorov is having himself a time these playoffs and GM's just love these giant physical Dman we saw it last year all were getting overpaid
He's getting 5m
And do we really see Woll getting to 41 games
Kid just cant stay healthy and has not reached 30 games since 2019-2020
Would not have a lot of confidence in that trio as if Woll goes down especially come playoffs how much faith we got in the other two. TOR needs to go invest in someone who can take the load

It’s an argument that won’t ever end.
The league needs to make rules less subjective but that’s impossible. We all agree at the end of the day if your player gets cross checked in the face it’s not worth keeping in the game.
The league picked one play to penalize nothing we can do.</div></div>
To me should make it to where crosscheck final min of a game in a scrum is the same as instigating a fight
Auto 1 game

Soucy deserved a suspension sorry. After he slashed McDavid he then decided to crosscheck and while Zadorov's crosscheck which was also bad due to going for a guy not paying attention in the back lead to it being higher both players should know better
League has said its cracking down on this stuff and when you both guys decided lets double team McDavid and start a brawl. Not a good look and both needed to be told thats a no no. After Soucy slashed McDavid back that should have been it but Zadorov escalated it. This then results in the scrum which leads to ABC
But in the end if Zadorov didnt do what he did none of that would have happened.

There is room for adjustments with a sacrifice if need be.
Marner for purely a goalie and cap space seems light though</div></div>
I say wait for C till the next summer not this one
Options are meh and depending on if Marner or JT waive or dont waive their NMC we dont got a lot of space to work with
The following year both guys are off the books and there are some nice options to target then
If both dont waive focus should be on Defense and looking at a Saros trade for assets. Afterwards come the following season we can then improve the forward core

Marner plus for Saros plus with retention
Liljegren for Sandin like package
Brought back Bertuzzi at 4.5 with term and Lybushkin at 2

Added Lindholm at 7 million, hoping Tre has inside track
Added Arvidsson for playmaking for 1 year only</div></div>
I feel Liligren's value is probs where Durzi's was or a tad less
Probs expect a pick from very late 30's to mid 40's. Gonna guess the 40 OA pick
A few guys have been underpaid here like Walker and Montour and I just cant see Bertuzzi sign that. Guy wants term and someone's gonna throw at least 5 at him.
Lindholm's gonna get 7.5-8.5m thats my guess rn and I think Vans gonna give it to him.

Both have been super impactful in the playoffs (Z: 9 GP 4G 3A 7P and Lindholm: 9 GP 5G 2A 7P)
I can see Zadorov getting 3-3.5 and Lindholm getting 5.5-6.5 on a 1 year prove it deal...
Assuming Marner gets traded... Wouldn't mind:
Bert (4.5) - Matthews - Domi (3)
McMann - JT - Willy
Knies - Lindholm (6.5) - Jarnkrok
Dewar (1) - Kampf - Holmberg
Rielly - Pesce (5.5)
Z (3.5) - McCabe
Benoit - Lilly (2.25)
Webber
Woll
Stolarz (2.2)
Hildeby
Cap space: 1.24 mill which covers if I'm undercutting, trying to overestimate my numbers but you never know</div></div>
Why would Lindholm take that?
Canucks will probs give him 7.5m - 8m heck almost every other team in FA would probs beat that
Zadorov aint a top 4 Dman and he aint signing that. With his playoffs he's getting at least 5m
That goaltending Trio is way to risky of a gamble as none of these guys has even hit the 30 game mark and we expect one or both to reach 40......

If we look at the UFA market there are a few D with a good shot
Skjei, Montour, OEL, Ghost, Gustafsson, Walker
Skjei and Montour feel like a ticking time bomb waiting to go off. Both are gonna cost 6-7m and thats to much
Ghost is a 1-way Dman like Barrie and Klingberg and is just gonna give the fans more headaches than he's worth and will probs cost around 5m
OEL is havign a nice little season but when you look his shooting % is higher than it was in Van. Tends to happen in FLA
Gus was here already and was a nice little piece but like Ghost is a 1-way LD and TOR should not be eyeing that
So that leaves Walker. That may very well be the choice rn should cost around 4-5m. After that can go target a Rielly partner like Demelo, Roy, Tanev, etc.

Saros has done fine in the league despite his size. For a goalie that does not worry me its Dman to where its a concern
I do not care for cost at this point as TOR needs to get their goaltending straightened out
We have Woll whose injury prone and were expecting 40 games out of him next year, 0 idea what we have in Hildeby, and the UFA market sucks. Sure we can trade for Ullmark or sign Talbot but Brad said it best in that presser "we dont want to have the second best goalie in a series" Ullmark would be that vs. Swayman, Vasi, and Bobrosky.
