The team that was the runner-up in the Stanley Cup Finals (pick 31)
The team that won the Stanley Cup in the previous season (pick 32)

wouldn't this look like WPG getting 24th pick?

Buium -&gt; Small, smart defenseman who put up absurd NCAA scoring results this year and won a Gold medal as a DY eligible player at the WJC. Plays with an edge to his game while maintaining a crazy high hockey IQ. No part of his physical toolbox is super impressive, but he doesn't have weaknesses either. Should go in the 6-10 range.

Helenius -&gt; Smaller Center who put up quality results against men in Finland this year. He's a really good skater with high end playmaking habits, but he's not much of a goal scorer and has underwhelmed at times on the international stage. Will probably land in the 10-14 range

Eiserman -&gt; He is incredible at scoring goals. He is not incredible at anything else. Will go in the first half of the first round, will depend on which team feels comfortable with the risks of his flaws.

Greentree -&gt; Big winger who put up really good results on a terrible OHL team this year. Bad at skating but can really shoot and competes hard. Showed non-typical leadership skills by wearing a 'C' on his jersey this year. Has not impressed at international events and looks inconsistent at times. Should go in the 16-24 range, but a team could reach on him,

Brandsegg-Nygård -&gt; Really smart forward who is known for a smart defensive game and putting up strong performances with the spotlight on him. Doesn't have a skillset that most people think will translate to a star NHL forward, but the floor is very high and the micro stats seem to think there is untapped offensive upside there. He will most likely go somewhere between 10-20

Hutson -&gt; USNDPT all-time scoring leader for defenseman, but he is small and has struggled at times to the point where he has not entirely alleviated the notion that he is translatable. Too much of a wild card to even begin justifying a draft order selection

Jiricek -&gt; Defensive defenseman who showed he could keep up with men in a professional league despite being one of the younger defenseman in this draft. Got hurt in the winter and missed a lot of time. Has good size and moves pretty well. My guess is he's specifically going in the 11-16 range

Connelly -&gt; Bigger skilled forward who can play wing or center. Put up strong USHL results and has impressed on the international stage. Has off ice and character concerns. Another total wild card come draft day</div></div>

i don't understand the "size" comments when it comes to catton at all, or even helenius for that matter... do you hear anyone ever talk about trocheck's size?

Assessing Mesar's time in the OHL is complicated. I watched a lot of Kitchener games this year, and Mesar was utilized all over the place (at Wing and Center). Stat watchers will just look at his overall numbers and say he was meh, but it's really not an honest look at his game.

You can really break down Mesar's last season in two. Before he left for the World Juniors, and after he came back. Before the World Juniors, Mesar played Wing on the first line and was <strong>dominant</strong> playing with Rehkopf (who also alternated Wing and Center throughout the year...) After the World Juniors, Kitchener acquired Eduard Sale, Seattle's 1st rd prospect. (and that ended up being a horrible trade, Sale was poo poo garbage the whole season up until the playoffs when he finally stepped up). Mesar was moved to Center and took on more defensive responsibilities (he even started playing the PK). He also had no chemistry with Sale (no one did...). So his productivity took a major hit.
But in the end, once the playoffs came around and it mattered most, Mesar was the Rangers most used two-way forward and was a playmaking machine.

I think if Kitchener solved their Center depth, instead of spending literally 2 players and <strong>9 draft picks</strong> for Sale (CHL trades are stupid), Mesar could have been kept on the wing, gotten more consistency, and probably would've finished with 80-90 pts this season. Add the fact Mesar has literally stepped up every time there was better competition (playoffs and World Juniors), I think he's very much slept on by Habs fans.

Should Mesar start in Laval next year? yes 100%. I still don't see him as a two-way guy in the pros, so if he can develop that aspect in the AHL that would be great. But if he can continue his chemistry with Slaf, I can see a Tomas Tatar type player (who doesn't disappear in the playoffs) for MTL.</div></div>

if Tomas tatar is the ceiling, id say that's fine but still wouldn't want him in the top-6. I agree with you tho and hope he works on his defensive game and becomes more of a puck hound rather than an offensive bystander
