Sharks Acquire Marner Sign Pesce Bertuzzi Dillon
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingExLeafs</b></div><div>I think one of Musty or Zetterlund has to be part of this package to make it worthwhile for the Leafs. They can opt to hold onto Marner and let him walk next offseason if the return isn't appealing because they still have to be competitive next year.</div></div>
This makes sense but the freed-up cap space could also allow them sign impact one or two impact free agents. Not saying that TOR should therefore trade Marner for peanuts, just suggesting that they could afford to sell slightly less than his worth if it means freeing up his cap hit to sign other impact guys while still acquiring solid pieces as well (i.e. Ferraro, #14 overall, Wiesblatt).
Musty would be a no-go, but in all likelihood yes I can see Zetterlund Ferraro Wiesblatt and a 2014 1st being the ask -- don't think it makes from SJ's perspective though.

No sure I understand the logic behind trading the 1st overall pick. Celebrini will be a foundational piece for the next 15 years.

I think for UFAs, Chatfield, DeMelo, Pesce, Roy, etc would be good targets for D-men (some more likely than others). Domi, Stephenson, Duchene, for forward tragets. We'll see what happens with Celebrini, but having him and Smith signed would really show free agents that it could be a good place to play and then get dealt to contender</div></div>
Yeah exactly, I think Pageau is a decent temporary 3c. Mikheyev sucks but I would probably go after Reilly Smith as someone the Pens can't really fit on their team anymore.
My only thing is I just don't want to overpay UFAs long term, and create a log jam in our forward core, similar to what our Defense is starting to experience a little bit.
Good point though, UFAs should be able to put up some points around Celebrini and Smith, I just don't want to create cap dumps of our own if we sign them to 3+ year deals

If these players were making 2-3m they would be completely different stories. IF we can get really solid UFAs on 1-3 year deals I am all for it. I just don't know how realistic that actually is</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Letsgosharks</b></div><div>this is realistically the right way, get some okay depth pieces who could bounce back, and some draft assets while we are at it.
Doesn't make sense to go out and overpay UFAs who will most likely regress before we start competing</div></div>
I disagree. Cap dumps are cap dumps for a reason. They're not playing well. that's not the type of player Grier should be bringing over.
You can overpay some really solid UFAs on 1-3 year deals and actually help the team play competitive hockey, then deal them for better assets than the one's you'd get for taking on a cap dump.

2. They can clear cap space in other ways. Ways that return assets.</div></div>
Teams always need centers, but Pageau is not going to improve a team like he should at a 5m cap hit,
also a team isn't going to just help NYI and eat 5m for 2 years for an meh 3C at best lol
How else can they really clear cap? I guess they could move Anders Lee, but he will cost a 2nd+ at a 7m cap hit
It's not like they are going to move their core players to clear cap, as they are trying to compete, so therefore moving a player like Pageau for a 2nd makes sense

Gallagher Dump

Cap dumps don't work that way because the value depends on how much the team needs the space. Its team dependent. Montreal has 9 mil in space with a mostly full roster and can create 10.5 mil in LTIR room by putting Price on LTIR. They don't need the space.

Draisaitl And Marner Team Up In San Jose In 3 Way Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RecycleShark</b></div><div>Couture to LTIR? Buy out Vlasic? Hmmm I give up</div></div>
The current balance is $37m, w/Couture in LTIR. 29m if he is back in the fold. A Vlasic buyout puts the 2024 total at about 32.2, make it 31.3 after Celebrini's ELC. The Marner, Draisaitl, Campbell deal above leaves 6.8m with 6 roster spots left to fill. Couture on LTIR makes it 14.8 and 7 empties. The total above for the 3D, which is probably a little light, is 13.5. So 1.3m for the remaining 4 roster spots.
I think Carier and Walker are doable, but have to leave Zadorov off and fill 5 spots with league mins. Then hope the cap goes up a **** ton in the next 3 years.
Addendum: I forgot a Campbell buyout frees up 3.9 the first year. Still not enough for Zadorov + the remaining spots, but it will allow something better than a league min signing.

Would this get Bedard
Celebrini and Bedard will be compared to each other their whole careers. Hard to say which one will ultimately be "better" but it's pretty clear CHI is extremely happy with Bedard and I can't see them deciding to move him for...anything, really.

Celebrini Draisaitl Marner
Granlund Smith Zetterlund

Only potential nit to pick is Dumba. He is a realistic signing for the Sharks. I included him in some of my ACGM's earlier and got feedback that he's washed up and no longer good on offense or defense.</div></div>
I just think he is a slight upgrade to rutta, logs heavy minutes, a ton of physicality, and he will know he is playing for a contract and needs a bounceback year. Its lowkey his career at stake, so I'm banking on him bouncing back
