Ehlers to DET Starting Point
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>Unlikely, he's not really a 2C.</div></div>
I'd say he's a decent 2C, just plays it in a different sense than others. He plays matchups really well and his offence isn't bad. He's just not a crazy point producing 2C. Put him with two offensive minded wingers and he's great in that spot.
That may not be what WPG is looking for tho.

Lol that was my first thought, it's a troll post tho. Both guys coming to detroit are the picks traded to Dallas for the pick to take Cossa

Hm ok interesting. Do you think they'd be interested in a guy like JT Compher then? Just trying to think of a deal along the lines of you're train of thought

I'm not a huge fan of just running it back like this but I do like the youth getting injected here. I'm not sure if Chiarot is the one to move with a pick at this point and with 5 mill in cap space, why not just hold on to Husso for the season and not eat his salary for another year?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dopplsan</b></div><div>Yup. Elvis' sitatuion is a run-of-the-mill "change of scenery" issue. Maybe he finds motivation in a new spot and plays great, even if only for a year. Or maybe he is a bust. If the latter, you're at least only paying him $2.7, so take that or enjoy the super-diminished buy-out.
To squashmaple 's point, no need to retain on Ville, and I have no issue retaining on Elvis (better than the alternative of a buy-out). CBJ's goaltending duo of the near future looks to be Greaves and Tarasov, and we just need a one-year stop-gap so Greaves can use his last year of being waivers-exempt.</div></div>
Yep that was part of my thought on this too. You're goalie pipeline is looking solid but not quite there yet and I think a year of a healthy Husso can be beneficial for those two young goalies.

aha no need to apologize man. I definitely understand the skepticism behind it. At first glance seeing a team with a bit of a goaltending issue trading for a project goalie with term feels a bit off. I always appreciate a little bit of push back and conversation, that's what makes these things fun!!

I agree, I'm not trying to say this is the wings getting their number 1 guy for the next few years. It's just an easy stop gap/transition guy who's cheap, can play, and you get a pick boosted.

I think Elvis could be a fantastic add for Detroit. He needs a solid defense in front of him because he's a bit chaotic. The only thing I'd worry is if the proximity to where Kivi died would be an issue for him.</div></div>
Oh jeez I didn't even think of your second point there. That genuinely could be an issue there.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SharkTank</b></div><div>That's making it worse.
You only have 1 year left of of injury prone Husso and then he's off the books.
Why do you want 3 years of Elvis?
Is he any better?
Well at least he plays. LOL
Yzerman will try to find a bridge to Cossa who's not far away from being NHL ready.
The UFA goalie market is trash and teams who have goalies who are supposedly available want King's Ransom prices.</div></div>
I don't see this making the situation worse. He'd only be making 2.74 which is pretty cheap when you take into account Lyon's contract next season and Cossa's ELC the two years after that. So with this, you get a guy who can split starts with Lyon this year and then help ease Cossa the next year, and then back up cossa the year after. Then he's gone. Worst case scenario, it doesn't work out and Detroit retains on a trade halfway through year two and you eat a mill worth of cap for one season. Best case scenario he gets back to close to his best play and you have a decent goalie tandem for 3 years. I'd rather do this than have a revolving door of goalies for 3 years with nobody to help Cossa transition. And you move a 4th to a 3rd.

Post-lottery off-season prediction
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>Well, no need to make an ACGM today, this is basically exactly what I'd do. Nicely done!
I like this a lot. Basically no significant assets lost or gained, and Columbus would be looking to sign a vet goalie anyway (a la Rittich) to have 2/3 of Tarasov/Greaves/Vet in the NHL at any given time. If that were offered, I'd just take it. I doubt CBJ are getting anything for Elvis even half-retained.</div></div>
Thanks! I just think this kinda works out for both teams. Gets CBJ out of a bad situation and worst case scenario for detroit, they trade him retained again at aome point in the final two years and only really have to eat like $1 million in cap

Post-lottery off-season prediction
I'm gonna give a little counter offer for the wings trade. Husso 50% retained and a 4th for Merzlikins 50% retained and a 3rd. Wings get a project with Merlikins who can help ease Cossa's transition to the NHL and Columbus gets a goalie back for this year and then rid themselves of bad goalie contracts after this season. Wings get the higher pick because Merlikins is a longer comittment.

Big off season s-wings Holtz
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>Holtz is tricky one to evaluate since Lindy stuck him on 4th line with wither away. But his scoring rates, even without much PP time or playing with Hughes or Hischier, were still promising. The shot is nasty. The play-making has its moments, but not consistent. There are still some wrinkles to iron out, such as puck protection in transition. But with another year on ELC, there is no pressing need to move him.
NJD only trade Holtz if it returns (a) an upgrade on blueline; (b) a goalie; (c) anyone named Moritz; in no particular order.</div></div>
Totally a fair assessment and I appreciate it! You can't have mortiz tho aha
I felt odd throwing Cleveland in there because obviously you guys have Nemec Hughes and Hamilton on the backend and that's unreal. I put him in there moreso as a "hey we're gonna need some guys to play in that 4-6 role in the future, can't hurt to have one of those in the pipeline outside of Casey"
Ultimately I think you are right, they shouldn't be in the rush to move holtz cuz he does look promising. This was moreso a scenario where team and player decide a fresh start is needed.

Big off season s-wings Holtz
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>YeahDudeitsChris</b></div><div>There’s a ton of problems with a Holtz trade TBH from an NJ standpoint.. Jersey isn’t moving him for a depth piece or a future draft pick. I agree his value has fallen to a degree but he still had a decent year considering his usage so there is uncertainty in value there but the real issue for most teams trying to acquire him is that NJ is only looking for a goalie or a top 6 power forward for him. Those are really the only pieces NJ could be enticed to trade for, NJ isn’t going to accept an offer just because it’s there value wise, it’s gotta be something that will plug a hole for the team they have now. NJ would absolutely have to add in either of those cases if the player is elite but that’s fine for NJ</div></div>
That's a totally fair assessment and the EXACT response I was looking for on this. I just genuinely couldn't overly gauge NJs needs outside of a goalie so I just went strictly value wise and maybe still ended up on the low end. So I really appreciate the insight on that. Might work on a revised one in a bit so hopefully I'll see you on that one too lol.

He can still score.
But if I'm NJ I'm not swapping out Holtz for a guy who's had 3 knee surgeries.</div></div>
I agree, that's why I've got 2 seconds in there too. This is all on the presumption that Holtz and NJ just wanna move on. But I would imagine with a new head coach Holtz will get some better looks next year

At 50% retained I don't consider Fabbri a cap dump, I consider him a useful bottom 6 roster player. I agree Cleveland is too tough to project right now, I think he'll be a really solid 4-6 dman in an NHL lineup in a few years.

Assuming guys like Kasper/Danielson don't bust, you're looking at a year 3 cap of $96.6M with two guys in significant roles on ELC, and a year four cap of $101.5M with at least one, if not both still on ELCs.
Doesn't even factor in ASP, if he pans out, on an ELC that entire time.</div></div>
I get where you're coming from, don't get me wrong. But the direction I was kind of eluding to is outside pieces coming in via trade or signing. I love the foundation of this core but I think we can both agree we're still a few pieces away from being a true contender even with the rookies coming in so having that cap flexibility in those two following years could be important

Kasper and Danielson will still be on ELCs in year 3 and probably year 4 with the way we're dragging our feet promoting talent lol.</div></div>
The way I see it, I think 25/26 and especially 26/27 is where things really start to ramp up and I think stevie will want on the cap space he can get in those years.
