I’d rather just keep the 33rd pick and take out one of the seconds

Chicago might do this if there is someone they really like at 15. Holl would be fine as a 5/6 right shot, on a rebuilding team with limited right shots on the back end.

RD is a weakness but they have a bunch of lefties in the AHL ready to make the jump. 5 spots isn’t that big of a jump but this is an idea that could work for both sides. If there is a name they like at 15 I could see this being a draft day trade.

I think this should be right up CHI's alley.

Matta isn't a cap dump, this would be value added for San Jose. If Detroit makes it to the 2nd round in next year's playoffs, the pick value starts to flip ~54 OA, but Matta can be moved at the TDL, probably for a 4th or maybe a 3rd with retention.

I think it probably depends mainly on who is available. I'm just showing what would be a pretty fair offer for the top of the 2nd round, something lower might be a better fit for Matta and would be cheaper. Letourneau might not be worth two 2nds and Matta...

The Chicago trade I could see happening. I wouldn't do it personally and in this scenario it's not good as you have the cap space to cover the buyout once you take out the drafted players that wouldn't be in the team.
The Sharks trade is bad for us. Maatta isn't a negative asset, he should get a more round pick in return. Trading two seconds is alot more than that pick should be worth. Especially next year's second as that player could be better than the one selected at 33OA. It's supposed to be a deeper draft.
For your picks, I have no issue selecting Terik, I don't mind him at all. The other guy I would be cautious about. Very unproven player against any real competition. He's a man playing against boys with his size. I could see taking a flyer on him with a third but two seconds and Maatta is quite the reach.

I wonder (like probably every Detroit fan at the time) what they could have if they traded back for Seider. It makes sense to try to get the player you want with the higher pick, but if there's more than one you like and you think one will be available 5 picks later, I'd do it.

Their GM up until April that year picked 2 spots later and every rumor following the pick was that they tried to trade back but knew somebody else was going to take Seider in the top 10.

I’ll let you read between the lines on that one lol.

Maybe Utah or Ottawa would be better targets for a trade. Still seems a bit risky though.

38 OA for 47 OA + Matta

I think 47OA + 3rd to 4th depending on the team/ player/ selection number

The sharks just don’t need him really, they could get someone similar or better for free in FA and I think they will hold 33 especially if they go forward, forward with their first two picks.

The Chicago trade officially receives my endorsement. Here in the Chicago Blackhawks organization we consider it a “done deal”.
