Bye Chooch Im sad how it ended

Created by: ryTown
Team: 2024-25 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 9, 2024
Published: May 14, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
-Pick a different team for Val, but I think something like two mid picks will get it done. Some bubble GM will look at the stats and 100% do it for a top 6 winger
-Giving Mittsy a 3 year deal keeps the AAV lower, as he'll be a 28 year old UFA
-3.25M to spend on a 4th liner + 6th D

"Give us a 2nd for our guy who apparently can't overcome his addiction and could never play another NHL game."

I was thinking more along the lines of Colorados 2025 1st and nichushkin for future considerations. Or just no pick and future considerations at best. They were going to be in cap hell next season, his 6 million in dead cap is going to kill them.

He's either playing and an effective player (Albeit a risk) or his contract will be terminated.

I don't think the league is gonna make Colorado eat his contract because he can't get his addiction together.

He should be eligible to play again in mid October, but the rules in the CBA state that a suspended player counts against the cap.

Yeah I get that...

But he either successfully completes rehab and comes back or he violates again, which I assume would probably mean he can be terminated.

I agree there's probably some way to terminate his contract, but like you said in another post was teams were only able to do it because of legal charges, and I doubt a positive drug test is going to lead to that.

I'm guessing repeatedly failing drug tests breaches NHL contract lol.

I'm not sure there's many jobs where that's not grounds for termination.

A kid I work with, I don't know how many times he has been to rehab. Well just show up for a couple shifts then disappear for a few months. Rinse and repeat. Still employed somehow.

It’s because addiction is considered a sickness and if he asks for help regardless of how many times they ask they get it so long as they do it before they are caught violating their employment agreement. About a decade ago I was going to have to terminate a guy he knew it everybody did and before I could he called and asked for help. I drove him to rehab, but he never came back to work.

He'll almost certainly be put on LTIR as his 'sickness/illness' (call it what you will) would fit within the rules for that.

I don't see a trade any time soon. The Flames also tend to avoid guys with questionable characters. I doubt they would have an appetite for anymore drama after Dube, Ruzicka, and Ronni recently. I would love that trade, but we can't have nice things.

I think EDM, PHI, and CAR would take a chance on the guy.
