1.
MTL
  1. 2024 1st round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
Draft Tij Iginla 9th Overall.

Montreal receives guarantees their draft spot, and gets it 1 year in advance.

In hindsight, the 2025 pick will be higher, but likely wouldn't be if Habs hold onto it.
CGY
  1. 2025 1st round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
Calgary is under no pressure to avoid rebuilding now. They hold their future pick and protect themselves from embarrassment if the team falls apart.

Montreal drafting Iginla and getting 2 years of Monahan and another 1st out of Winnipeg stings. Not as bad as giving up an unprotected 2025 in Flames current state.

The 2025 CGY pick will likely be florida because of the protection. Here's a graphic to help you understand the clauses of the pick

wouldnt trade ghule straight up for zegras. we have plenty of dman to move but Ghule has been our best all around defenseman.

Look at the Flames roster. Look at the other teams in the bottom 10 rn. Then look in the mirror and try a convince yourself that the Flames won’t be a bottom ten team in the league (it’s not possible). That pick is staying in Calgary anyways, no point in trading a top 10 pick for something that has a 99% chance to be ours anyways.

Sharks definitely not taking that offer. No amount of picks can amount to a potential franchise player.

Just because the Jets lost him to waivers once, doesn't make him trash forever. Two strong seasons in Montreal, and if i remember correctly, Jets were upset they lost him last time.

Understood.

Should mention, Guhle has played RD in Montreal on and off and hasn't looked out of place. As others said in the comments, he was our best all round defense man. This wasn't a "buy low" option for Zegras.

I don't see WPG moving the 37th overall pick. The value that Kovacevic brings isn't enough to warrant a drop like that to the 3rd round in my opinion.

It also doesn't mean than all of a sudden he is worth a high 2nd that is almost a 1st. If the Jets want him for AHL depth they can just claim him from waivers when he gets there.

Respectfully disagree.

Kovacevic is an NHLer.
The odds of a 2nd round pick becoming an NHLer is 35%.
The odds of a 3rd round pick becoming an NHLer is 25%.

So Jets would get Kovacevic, an NHL player, for a difference in 10% chance of likelihood of drafting an NHL player. At this point in the draft, teams trade lists are completely different, and Jets still likely get a guy they had in that same grouping.

Trade is fair, value is there.

Reading is hard, you get a 3rd. So moving back roughly 40 spots in the draft.

Here is some more topical reading for you to practice on.

You forgot limited talent. He's okay as a 7/8, but in no world is anyone giving up a high 2nd for a replacement level player.

Fair evaluation, appreciate the breakdown! I always liked Kovacevic and wish WPG gave him a real shot when we had him. With that being said, my personal preference would be to hold onto that pick and find a similar or above level replacement in Free Agency.

Educate yourself a little on player values so you don't sound so ignorant about them. Waiver fodder is worthless. No team is giving you a high value piece for something the can get for free.

Pretty fair value, but I doubt the Sharks are willing to trade so far down. Jiricek or one of the top-6 d-men will probably be there at 14, but they wont at 27.

Kovacevic is already 65% chance better than anything you draft with that pick, yet you keep trashing him. There is a less than 35% the player you draft is better than him. So please, understand who is being ignorant in this thread, i am having respectful conversations with literally ever other poster.

You seem to struggle with player value, development, comprehension of full trades, draft pick values and probabilities with draft picks becoming NHL players. I don't think we need to discuss this further.
