No big name
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>Perfetti isn't available.
Winnipeg can just wait for Barron to hit waivers if they want a 7/8D.</div></div>
Why, he finished the year in the NHL he just did a stint in the AHL like Struble and Xhekaj
The only Waiver Exempt Player who didnt do a stint was Guhle
Barrons final five games he had a goal and was a + 4 with 1 win and 4 OT losses two in a shootout
There was no blowouts outside MTL 9-3 win over PHI
MTL had overcrowded Goalies and when we made room both Primeau and Montembaults
Their consistency went up with Primeau recording a shutout the next game after Allen was traded
For MTL we have Savard and Kovacevic leaving by TDL with Struble likely going to the AHL as he's the only Waiver Exempt one left beside Xhekaj who could go down again too.
There is Hutson and Guhle but i highly doubt you see them sent down but it would happen before we'd waive Barron thats for sure.
Once TDL clears out some room i suspect you'll see more growth from a lot of players specifically Guhle and Barron who are ready for that next step this coming season.
There's Defenseman i'd move before Barron thats for sure and he's no more likely to be waived then Morgan Barron or Rasmus Kupari
Just because MTLs GM left our D and Goaltending overloaded in an effort to seemingly sabotage our chances at a playoff run especially with the Goalie Trio nonsense.
Doesnt mean it was the wrong choice or that rotating Waiver Exempt Contracts between the NHL and AHL as needed to do so is a bad thing.
Barron looked much stronger to end the year after time with the Claude Julien of the AHL in Coach Houle. He taught Roy how to clean up his defensive game in 30 games or so.
Now Roy is one of the few trusted young guns MSL relied upon when games were close and Coach Houle has had success with helping many players hit the ground running including Struble and Even Primeau who is a puck moving Goalie who got too bold a lot early in his career much to the dismay of Coach Boucher. That stopped when Houle took over so now if Primeau touches the puck its not trying to spring his man in the NZ creating a odd man rush against himself. Now he lets the D reset and helps them get the line changes in.
I have more Faith we'll make a top 4 regular out of Barron then you will make a top 6 regular out of Kupari
All that said
My Defense of Barron shouldnt be taken as an endorsement of the trade.
Perfetti isnt a fit here really we have a Newhook and he finished the year with 9 points in 10 games playing strong
I mean Perfetti is 5th in scoring for WPG while Newhook was 6th. Perfetti had 38 points in 70 while Newhook had 34 in 55 games heating up after his return from injury
Perfetti had 91 faceoffs 37.6% win rate and Newhook had 492 with a 46.5% win rate. So they're the both taken top 20 in 2019 and 2020 respectively being developed for the same role
Its Redundant and will only hurt both That said Newhook off a Cup Win got a 1st and a 2nd after a career high 33 at 21 years old just 5 points less then Perfetti's at 22
I value Perfetti as i do Newhook and would get why you wouldnt want to part with him as he's a solid piece to build on unlike a Kupari for example

If you can’t understand why a rebuilding team wouldn’t trade a 5th OA pick for one year of Marner, you are doomed

for s
For both trades the simple question is why?
Habs already have 2 goalies and spent all year last year trying to trade 1, why give up a 3rd when he's barely an improvement on Primeau who's younger?
Guhle is part of the future core of the defense for MTL and Burns is too old to do anything positive for the Habs, makes no sense

Mailloux
As a ohl season ticket holder who got to see barlow play a coupke tines this year I would rather keep mailloux.
A lot of the pre draft concerns about there being a ceiling on him as more of a finished project seems to have been true as the player I saw this year was the same one as last year. He disnt evolve year over year.
Not that he wont be a good player but I dont think hes going to be a great player.
Logan the last 2 years has come leaps and bounds year over year to the point he didnt look out of place playing on the top pair with matheson in the nhl in the last game. I think early on because what happened some scputs were overly critical of his game post draft but with time passing and him playing as well as he has its undeniable.

Habs don't come close to offering that for a 27 point regular season player and playoff blackhole that is paid like a 2nd line center

yeah, Hyman's only average 0.5 G/GP since going to Edmonton, and Lehkonen's only won a Cup while averaging 60+ pts/82 GP in Colorado, I would -hate- getting those types of players with my top 10 pick.
