Its certainly risky, but its about par for the course in the modern NHL. You pay for what you think a player will do over the term of the deal - not what theyve done so far.
Clearly they like him. I'm not totally convinced myself though.
Edit: I think I'm going to vote yes for the same reason I voted No on Miro's deal.
OTT sucks, so there is little opportunity cost lost by locking him up compared to bridging.
Still don't see how he could have gotten much more if they waited a year though, and that would have helped lower the risk a tad
This feels like a Chayka contract.. which is to say risky and scary to pay for what a player is going to do and not what he has done. I feel confident it’ll turn out ok but hopefully too many times don’t follow in his footsteps
Dorion pullling a Ophrah managing this teams cap... YOU GET 8 MILLION DOLLLAS.... YOU GET 8 MILLION DOLLLAS.... YOU GET 8 MILLION DOLLLAS.... YOU GET 8 MILLION DOLLLAS.... YOU GET 8 MILLION DOLLLAS

It’s per the course but he was also the best defensemen on the Sens last season and will win a Norris if his offence picks up, he’s two-way play is that good.

When the Cap is 100m + he will look like a genius for getting these guys on those contracts.
Let's face it, paying a guy 64 million after 77 games is risky. It's not like Sanderson was a Calder Finalist either. Not saying we won't outperform that contract, but look at a Myers for example, insane rookie year and downhill from there. Again, not saying its gonna happen with Sanderson, but there is definitely some risks
I feel like this might age fine alone, but Dorion has been way too givvy with da money...
Not a big fan of paying max market value for guys who are signing early, like Norris did, and now Sanderson... Feel like if your going that long early with that short of sample size you should be getting a discount.
A "pay early for potential and hope it works out" type contract. If he reaches his potential it should be a good deal, but if he doesn't that's a lot of money and term tied up on Ottawa's left side...

Maybe I’m just bias but I can’t see Sanderson play going downhill. Maybe he’ll just be worth it or overpaid by 1M or 2 max
You make this deal all day imo. Elite skater and he's actually a king of defensive positioning. He's always in the right spot, and he rarely ever makes mistakes. He's a great puck mover and has much more to give offensively. Maybe there's some risk I guess, but to me it's the same as the Stützle deal. People questioned that deal at the time, and the team was immediately proven right. I don't think you're paying him less than that next summer.

By the law of statistics, there is a risk of him not blowing up like we want him to, but he's not the most likely guy to have a rough development. OTT should be fine, but its another gamble
