Description
With 53 points in 132 games. and a 43 point season this year some of kaps best comps are guys like Bjorkstrand, and Faksa.

$3 mil seems like a stretch, when really that is reserved for someone like mantha with a touch more of a track record.

Andreas Johnsson seems like a lock for a connor brown contract with 45 in 81.

https://www.capfriendly.com/comparables/connor-brown-8093

Seems like Kapanen and AJ should get 3.14% and 2.80% of the cap respectively. (2.6 and 2.3 mil)

Assume leafs have to overpay a bit given their cap situation, it does not seem unreasonable for them to get 2.75 mil and 2.5 mil each. Now their comps got 3 year deals, so those figures on 2 year deals seem even more reasonable, as AJ/Kap can then cash in earlier if they perform.

If someone wants to swing for the fences on either one with an offersheet, remember that they do have to sign, and the leafs can match and then make other moves. The cost of losing either for just a second doesnt make too much sense, when they can find a mil of cap space elsewhere. Not so sure other teams are tossing up a 1st and a 3rd for either at 4+ mil, but if they do let them walk.

I think they get more than Brown, probably along the lines of Vatrano or Kase (2.7ish)

Agree on the AJ and Kappy contracts. They have slowed down drastically and everyone was over valuing them a couple months ago. Kappy hasn't scored in 15 + games. I don't see either getting over $3m if they sign for 2 years.

I think the Leafs will sign Marner for under $10m but probably not if he signs for 6 years.

I think you need to ask yourself, Knowing that Kapanen will be an offer sheet candidate. Pretty sure some crazy GM out there offers him $4 million per to make it tough on Dubas.

sure maybe somone does. If it's in the 1st and a 3rd range i'd let him walk. if it's for a 2nd i think you keep him, and see if Dallas would retain on Johns, send a cheaper D or prospect, or sign a UFA like Heed or Fedun.
