I think the league wisened up after the Orpik deal, gave WSH a stern warning, and heard they issued a league wide memo to GM's advising that deals like those will not happen again.
In other words, I don't think the league would allow Marleau to re-sign with Toronto at a team friendly contract.

I also think you are overpaying for Pesce. I'm far from a Leafs fan but Dubas isn't stupid, and knows Nylanders trade value will spike by mid season next year as he returns to proper NHL fitness levels and if he'd be traing him, it would be at that point.
I also think Dermott's value not only to the Leafs but also to other teams is higher than a "thrown in" sweetener.
But Carolina would most likely be asking this type of value in return for PEsce. But I wouldnt be sending this package out if I'm the Leafs.

I don't Think Carolina needs to make any moves for Nylander. That defence looked awesome last night! team has no problem scoring either!
