This was inspired by the 1 For 1 Challenge someone else started a while back (not sure who or how long ago, so here's the one I did if you're unfamiliar: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/1241629 ). This started out as something serious, or as serious as the 1 For 1 Challenge
(as I imagine it is, yet unrealistically) is supposed to be. However, as I was constantly moving around players, trying out different trades and creating rules (to prevent anyone who may do this in the future from directly trading rosters 1 for 1 in a single, massive trade in an attempt to be humourous - and now that I mention it, I wouldn't be surprised if it happened anyway)...things began to start going insane. The result was a chaotic, even more unrealistic challenge that is (I hope at least) fun (at least I thought it was). So if you decide to try this, here are the rules:
1) You don't need to trade your organization. You only need to trade your Roster as Capfriendly presents it. This includes players that would be/on scratches/IR/LTIR. The players listed on your non roster as well as draft pick are considered currency. You can use them however you wish to help facilitate trades. That said, don't be afraid to overpay, as you should have a lot of currency.
2) You must make a minimum of 8 trades.
3) The maximum amount of trades allowed is 10.
4) A trade cannot contain:
-More than 8 pieces per side
-More than 4 Roster Players per side
-More than 4 Non-Roster Players per side
-More than 4 Draft Picks per side
5) I don't want to say this should be "realistic" as the chaos factor and challenge itself is anything but; however, try to make it at least plausible. You don't need to even it out. You have a lot of currency in the way of prospects and draft picks, so you can overpay. The idea is that the team you trade with should get back equal or more value. You will always have people who disagree, so just try your best and have fun with it. Don't worry about another teams cap situation or current needs, just try to give equal or more value.
6) While you can if you want, don't feel the need to make a super roster. You just need to trade your Roster players with a new set of Roster players.
7) You must remain Cap compliant.
8) If you have unsigned RFA's that you would project to be on your roster (or anyone's roster) by Dec 3, you're going to need to sign them to a realistic term/dollar figure and trade them as well.
9) You must have at least 12 forwards, 6 defensemen and 2 goalies after all trades are complete.
10) You cannot exceed a 23 man roster.
11) You cannot sign any UFA's, unless that UFA is going to free agency from your team. Example: Only Colombus can sign Panarin. Players bought out, such as Corey Perry and Dion Phaneuf do not count and cannot be signed by the teams that bought them out or by anyone else.
12) You cannot acquire a contract and put it on LTIR or your non roster. Everything you trade for must remain on your roster.
13) As said above, have fun!
NOTE: If my rules confuse you in any way, feel free to ask questions. It may take me a while to get back to you, as I'll be a bit busy for the next little while, but I'll get back to you, unless I decide to suddenly move on from this place.
NOTE 2: I feel like I'm forgetting a rule I pre-planned in my head. So I'm reserving the right to add rules if I see fit. I also may add/alter/remove rules if anyone finds a way to circumvent the rules in any way. Although, I doubt I would change the rules in any way even if someone found a way to circumvent them, as this is meant to be fun and not serious. I just want to leave my options open.
NOTE 3: *Added before publication* I have remembered which rule I was forgetting to add, but I'm going to leave the full "NOTE 2" up anyway.
NOTE 4: This is going to make my rules seem redundant (so be it), but if you dislike my rules, find them difficult, want to take the challenge more seriously, etc, then feel to do to do this on your own rule set or simply just alter mine.
NOTE 5: I haven't seen this challenge done before in my short time here, so I'm presenting it as my own. If someone else did start it, then I apologize. Feel free to link me to the original and I'll give credit where credit is due, so long as I remain active and haven't abandoned this place.
So to give a brief explanation of my roster: In the 1 For 1 challenge, I went heavy at forward, while putting together a defence that didn't match. I tried to do the opposite with this challenge and put more emphasis on the defense. I even had a little fun with it by using all names that Leaf fans have been (somewhat frequently to very frequently) proposing in their Armchair-GM Rosters, as well as making sure they are all right shot D, something that is a big need for Toronto!
