I understand it but the TOR trade makes me kinda nauseous. The Avs literally have zero use for Engvall with Bowers, Kaut and LOC ready for full time work. They have minimal use for Dermott that could very easily turn to no use with Byram and Timmins.
Kapanen, just feels like a 3rd liner. To me I think you end up net ahead not doing a thing.

i suspect avs are going to lose graves in the expansion draft. having dermott gives the avs girard/byram/dermott post draft which is good and affordable.

i think people are sleeping on engvall. great size for that 4th line and fits in well with the grinding style. should be able to replace nieto's production. that part of the trade is pretty low risk. kaut steps in when there is an injury.

at $3.2m kap is a good mix of scoring ability and affordability. it allows the avs to keep depth longer.

toronto gets two 2nds and saves $6m in cap so i think it gives them something to think about too.

Engvall is a guy. Dermott is a third pairing guy, and imo Kapanen is a 3rd line guy. Championship teams let youth grow on the 4th line/3rd pairing earning higher roles or playing their ways out not acquiring guys to block them. Imo literally the same thing is accomplished by just bringing Jost and Zadorov back. Just not a fan of it.
