Description
**Please note - made a mistake with Coleman, his number will probably be closer to $4 mil**

I am not a Leafs fan - this is from an outside perspective. I have given the reasoning behind the CGY trade which I actually think makes sense for both teams as CGY is increasingly looking at making some sort of big move to their core.

Hyman is resigned - which I believe works well for the team. Coleman & Haula are free-agency additions. I believe Coleman brings in a similar skill set as Hyman, which I think would make him a great pairing with Tavares and Nylander.

In terms of the CGY trade, I can see some comments coming about CGY possibly having to give up more, but I think the Marner contract hurts that with the flat cap for the next few years. The 1st rounder is an extra that Dubas can use at the tradeline to address any issues as he sees fit.

I considered a Seth Jones trade, but his underlying numbers are awful and would present issues with the Leafs as they are constructed. I also considered Ottawa - a Marner for Chabot type of swap, but I could not justify it from Ottawa's point of view.

Comments are welcome, but let's keep it civil all!

Selected in Expansion Draft, assuming Leafs go 4F-4D (Tavares, Matthews, Nylander, Marner, Rielly, Brodie, Holl, Muzzin).

TOR
  1. Hanifin, Noah
  2. Lindholm, Elias
  3. 2022 1st round pick (CGY)
  4. 2022 3rd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Why this works for CGY: Andersson emergence makes Hanifin expendable, I give the slight edge to Rielly as the better player overall. If they decide to hang on to Gaudreau and Monahan, adding Marner *should* make that line deadly. 1st rounder and 3rd rounder to account for the difference between Lindholm and Marner.
CGY
  1. Marner, Mitchell
  2. Rielly, Morgan
Additional Details:
Why this works for TOR: Hanifin is young, signed for the same term as Matthews (+/- 1 year), and is a proven Top 4 defenseman. Rielly is an expiring deal who is likely going to be asking for $7 mil plus in the next deal - Calgary may decide to give that to him depending on Giordano with Seattle and his performance this year. Lindholm is only 26 and signed for 3 more years at less than $5 mil. He can play as Matthews RW and gives flexibility as he has played center before. Puts up nearly a point per game still. According to Hockey Reference, actually got votes for the Selke as well.

Flames decline, they're not gonna trade away Lindholm without getting a center in return

Andersson and Hanifin are opposite sides. Anderssons emergemence does not make Hanifin expendable
