Description
As much as it sucks to see Barbashev go, he is the key piece to the trade being accepted. Bill Armstrong drafted him and his true offensive potential was shown this year. His departure allows Neighbors to crack the top 9. With Barbashev leaving, I think that makes Tarasenko leave via free agency. As much as that hurts, salary needs to leave in order to sign Thomas and kyrou in 2023. Ideally the blues also sign a couple defenseman to minor league deals that can be called up and relied on a little bit.

I'm sure someone will mention the ville husso signing. He had 1 good year. great year actually but that doesn't get you a $5M contract. $2.5M prove it contract. If he doesn't take that, Hofer, Ellis, or lindgren back up Binnington and you save that capspace for the trade deadline.

Mayfield is more valuable to us than for that package. Kostin has proven nothing and the 3rd isn't enough. Isles could get a 1st for Mayfield at the next deadline if they really wanted to. The only way I see him going is in a deal for a big improvement in the top-6 forward group

Kostin is top 6 ready (okay maybe more middle 6 with top 6 upside but he could play 2nd line rn). He plays a heavy game too which is at least how the Isles played with trotz... I figured y'all would want a guy that can play right away and has upside vs a late 1st round pick that you would have to wait on for a few years.

I think he would fit perfectly in Parise's spot or move LEE up and put Kostin with JG Pageau

but you're probably expecting wahlstrom to take that spot eventually so I get it, Kostin might not be ideal

He had 9 points in 40 NHL games this year. I don't even think he's middle-6 tbh. I would much rather take the 1st and flip it for something if necessary. The Isles may makes some changes to their forward group this summer one route or the other, but I don't think Kostin is on their radar. Especially if it costs Mayfield who is an elite PKer and in a very inexpensive last year of his contract
