Your deals are awesome for a 2017-18 season. When that season is over, you won't have the cap space to sign Tavares AND Price. You willing to let Price walk? Surely, you're throwing the bank at Tavares if you're giving up your captain for him (which, by the way, isn't nearly enough). Price and Tavares will be 10M$ players, which means you'll need 8M$ extra to sign those two. You have a hair over 5M$ of cap space. You're short close to 3M$. On top of that, you'll need to replace Mitchell, re-sign Davidson/Jerabek/Danault/McCarron, all likely getting raises (some more than others).
JT is costing you much more than Pacioretty.
I like the Kovalchuk proposition, but I'd try to keep those 2 draft picks you threw in the deal. By keeping your own 2nd and 3rd round picks, it gives you flexibility to sign RFA's should you fail to land JT. I think Scherbak & Juulsen is enough. If you need to include picks, include the picks acquired from other teams in '17 & '18.
