Description
A few trades that need to happen. Maybe it happens with different teams in real life, but I think most of these guys need to get moved. I like our lineup how it is and we've got guys knocking on the door in Providence. JFK, Cehlarik, Heinen, DeBrusk, Senyshyn, Gabrielle..... ect have a chance to unseat Vatrano for 3rd line W. If Vatrano is bad then one of them will surely replace him. As for the draft picks: I'd like to get atleast 2 legit C prospects if we acquire those extra picks. We really only have JFK and Trent Frederic as potential top 6 C's. It's still a bit early because we have Krejci for 4 years and Bergeron for 5 years. Gagner is done in 2 years, as is Williams and some of those players will get to move up to the NHL. We need a Goalie Prospect because basically all our eggs are in Vladar's basket right now if we move Subban. We could potentially wait until round 4 to take the goalie, but I think it would be prudent to select one this draft.

Trades
1.
BOS
  1. 2017 2nd round pick (PIT)
  2. 2017 2nd round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
Pittsburg 2nd is 1 pick away from being a 3rd and NYR is late as well.
CAR
  1. Spooner, Ryan
  2. Subban, Malcolm
Additional Details:
These players need to move on from Boston. Spooner fits their smallish speed/skill design. Their backup goalies are mostly old and will be gone in a year IMO. Subban plays a year in the AHL and then makes a move to the NHL in a backup role the season after. These guys fit their team well and they give up 2 late 2nds knowing they still have an early 2nd in their pocket and 2 3rds, as well as a good prospect pool already.
2.
BOS
VGK
  1. Miller, Colin
Additional Details:
Expansion Draft Selection. Shoulda been my first trade, but I got excited.
3.
BOS
  1. 2017 5th round pick (EDM)
EDM
  1. McQuaid, Adam
Additional Details:
Chiarelli loves McQuaid. He buys while McQuaid's stock is low due to injuries.
4.
BOS
  1. 2017 7th round pick (WSH)
WSH
  1. Khudobin, Anton
Additional Details:
Wash is losing Grubauer IMO. They've got like nothing else at the NHL level and their other prospects don't look ready. Khudobin would do better playing less with Wash behind Holtby.
5.
BOS
  1. 2017 5th round pick (MTL)
MTL
  1. Hayes, Jimmy
  2. 2017 7th round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
Montreal has been trying to get bigger for years now. Jimmy Hayes is a mammoth even though he plays a bit soft. Perhaps a change of scenery sparks Hayes to better production.

Why would Boston sell low on McQuaid. Have I missed something?

Why would Boston sell low on McQuaid. Have I missed something?

To get out of the contract. He's played an average of less than 70 games each year, so no-one is going to pony up a great offer for an injury prone guy who's over 30 years old IMO. He played his most games (77) last year, but missed some playoff action too, so thats factored in as well. If we can get a 4th or even 3rd for him I'd completely applaud Mr. Sweeney for his actions. I did this mock potentially winning a trade and somewhat losing a trade, even though I still think they are all fair, I just went up a round or down a round based on approximate value.

Trading him is more about how he's like a lesser version of Kevan Miller and that we don't need both of them. The only way we keep McQuaid IMO is if Kevan Miller plays the left side, which he's not great at or McAvoy plays the left side instead. If that happened our pairs would likely be Chara Carlo, Krug McQuaid, Miller McAvoy. That could happen I guess, but then we'd be at the cap ceiling which would make it hard to add someone at the deadline if we're in good shape to make the playoffs, if we do the signings that I've done for the real Boston Bruins. Now if we don't sign any forwards it clearly wouldn't be a problem to keep McQuaid at all, but I expect us to spend around 3M atleast especially if we can Trade Jimmy Hayes. If we can get a 5th for McQuaid it's still a good pick for us. Bjork, O'Gara and Wiley Sherman were 5th round picks and Matthew Benning, Zane McIntyre and Anton Blidh were 6th round picks, so we're good at drafting in that range too. Every pick doesn't have to be a top 3 round pick to make a difference. Sure those picks have a better chance to materialize into something good, but we've just recently started drafting a lot better in the later rounds so a 5th round pick is nothing to sneeze at for us. I believe we already signed 5th round pick Joona Koppanen from the 2016 draft to a contract as well, so he may amount to something too. A 5th rounder is useful in the Boston Bruins hands, it's not the absolute most we could get for McQuaid in every given situation, but when someone gets the absolute most from every team they deal with and sign every guy for the absolute minimum they'd take; it kinda seems like a joke to me, you know, something that would never happen in real life. So I did potentially lose that deal by maybe a round or 2, but I feel like I won the Spooner / Subban trade by getting 2x second rounders for 2 guys we don't even want very much. Don't sleep on getting a 5th for Jimmy Hayes and a 7th either, I haven't seen us draft many good 7th rounders lately, as Emil Johansson is really our one guy and he's not a lock to ever do anything. Trotman was okay I guess as well, but we let him go for nothing if I remember right.

Pretty good work here. Ideas are good. However.......

1) Williams and Gagner may command a little more money.
2) Not sure why we sign and trade, just trade their rights and let them sign them to whatever they want!! And for picks, can we give up the 2017 picks and take maybe 1 2018 pick instead? A first round? Or even a second?
3) I doubt Montreal takes on Hayes - maybe find a Western Conference team that's had less exposure to him and his down-side (lack of scoring ability)

Good job though!!
