Description
Lots of Trades and we don't really get much, but we got cap space and sent away players we don't need anymore. I went over my self imposed budget on Williams and Hanzal, just to give Chara extra help up front. Maybe Chara resigns next year as well and then Hanzal Williams Chara and Beleskey are all UFA's the following year, creating over 17 M in cap room to sign replacements.

Trades
1.
BOS
  1. 2018 2nd round pick (ANA)
Additional Details:
We get a decent pick, even though it may be a very late 2nd.
ANA
  1. Spooner, Ryan
Additional Details:
With former 3rd C, Rickard Rakkell at first line LW, they have room for Spooner. He'd fit in great behind Getzlaf and Kessler.
2.
BOS
  1. 2018 6th round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
We get rid of Hayes, by losing a guy who don't appear to want that much in the first place.
DET
  1. Hayes, Jimmy
  2. Subban, Malcolm
Additional Details:
Detroit has Coreau, but he wasn't very good in the NHL last year. He's far from a lock, so they bring in competition. All it took for them to acquire a former 1st round pick was a 6th round pick and eating Jimmy Hayes' full 1 year deal.
3.
BOS
  1. 2018 5th round pick (NYI)
NYI
  1. McQuaid, Adam
Additional Details:
NYI really like our old defensemen and they have a hole for a RHD. After Boychuk, theres just Mayfield really as the only other Right Handed guy, now that they traded Hamonic.
4.
BOS
Future Considerations that amount to the ability to swap 3rd round picks in the 2019 draft.
    LAK
    1. Khudobin, Anton
    Additional Details:
L.A. Gets a guy who was once a good backup and could be again.

If they are going to make a big free agency signing (6 million) it would be very unlikely that it would be for a 3rd line centre. They would use that money in free agency for a position where help is needed. This would be a top 4 left-shot defensemen ( ex. Alzner) or a LW to play with krejci (ex. Marleau). Just not sure why they would give a 3rd line centre 6 million for 2 years.

Don Sweeney said we're "building from within" when it comes to defensemen, so spending big on Alzner is foolish. We have 4 potential top 4 LHD prospects right now and then whatever you would call O'Gara and Grzelyck.... maybe top 6D's?, .....no need to add a current LHD on lengthy term and big money.

3rd line C is more important than a LW for Krejci for several reasons: #1 We have a ton of wing prospects like Bjork DeBrusk Heinen Cehlarik. Any of which could be his LW this year and grow into better players in the future. We don't need a guy to bridge that gap also because we can start Vatrano and Beleskey in the top 9 along with Marchand and then move them out for a Rookie if they falter. #2 If Krejci gets injured this season again or if we fail to miss the playoffs, he's likely the guy on his way out to shake up the roster. Why add a player to build around a guy who is the most likely to get moved if we have a disappointing season? #3 It's only high money because it's a 2 year deal. You need to think more about the term more than the money in this deal, we don't want a guy who's going to be signed for 4 or 5 years. In 2 years JFK will be ready to be a full time NHLer and will take his spot as the 3rd C until Krejci and Bergeron's deals expire. Hopefully he can be a top 6 C when that happens.
