Tatar is a UFA next season. With Mesar an Slav, I think he would be a good mentor for the kids. He is very talented, but playoff is another thing.

Not that far, but Mtl need to get bigger right now. Have you seen what the Caps gave to get him?

Traded from Detroit Red Wings to Washington Capitals for Jakub Vrana, Richard Panik, round 1 pick in the 2021 draft (Wyatt Johnston) and round 2 pick in the 2022 draft (Dmitri Buchelnikov)

So this is the reason for some kind of ovespaid.

The caps way overpaid when they got him in the first place because they were offloading the panik contract. Mantha isn't worth much (might even be considered a negative asset by some GMs) so yeah you'd be overpaying hugely for him.
