This saves them money long term. It's not like they aren't upgrading the team in this deal.

The Rangers desperately need to draft a young centre in the event that, God forbid, Chytil retires. Our 1st this year will be used to do that. If we had more than one 1st, maybe, but they're not going to waste it on jettisoning Goodrow

McLeod is worth more than what the Devils are getting in return. Maata is not of interest. Devils would pay for Lyon in futures if they decided that he is the solution.
