I think you have underpaid Hanifin a bit there. I would think he is going to be looking for a ballpark of 7-7.5 a year maybe more

while I think the value for the PIT trade is fair, I don't think the pens are dumping any more money into their high priced defense when their forwards can't score.
As much as they need to improve their 3rd pairing, the best defense is a good offense, and that's really the part that's lacking.
