Additional Details:
Why this deal makes sense:

Utah - instantly get two all-stars with massive marketing/brand name to help grow the franchise. Not to mention that they both help fill major holes in the team by adding significant scoring and skill up front. Lili also gives them some flexibility to trade someone like Durzi. After they make this move I can see a Durzi+Schmaltz+2nd for Zegras type trade to get their 1C with Geekie able to step into the 2C/3C slot and Kerfoot/McBain also down the middle. Add Keller, Marner, Nylander upfront and it's a solid F corps.

Toronto - Refill the cupboards with some prospects that fit Treliving's mold while clearing out cap space.

Marner/Nylander - Things clearly aren't working in Toronto. They get to stay together and figure it out in a lower pressure environment.

if you remove the retention on EK maybe they'd consider it.
No way they will retain for that return.
EK alone will bring back at least a 1st and a prospect.

I don't think it's a good idea for the Pens even without retention. It doesn't do them any good unless they start the rebuild, and they won't.
Also, the Pens have 6 RHDs in their entire system, and the only free agent who can come close to replacing EK sufficiently is Brandon Montour. EK isn't expendable.

EK will always have a problem on the penguins of having to split time. Which means the pens nor him get the most out of him.
He's better in a team where he is the clear 1LD. Unless the penguins are going to give him that role, they should trade him and balance their cap more efficiently.
