I started this to see one thing....if the Leafs could potentially afford to sign Drew Doughty in the summer of 2019.

I do realize I may have been a little hopeful and possibly a little unrealistic with the signings of Matthews, Marner and Nylander but I'd like to think they can convince them to take slight discounts to have the best chance of multiple cups.
Doughty could also probably fetch a little more than 9 mill per season but the Leafs offer just too much for the local boy and hopefully he can't refuse the offer.

They should trade Gardiner in the summer of 2018 before his current contract runs out and I think they can get a top prospect plus a 2nd rounder for him. His value has never been higher.

Matt Martin has been essentially replaced by an older, yet hopefully slightly cheaper Williams on the 4th line. His playoff pedigree is invaluable for a still young team and could bring them over the edge in the early summer.

Bouwmeester has won almost everything except for the cup and this is his best chance. He will basically take on the roll that Ron Hainsey has held for a couple years and will lock down the 3rd pairing with the young rookie Liljegren, as well as kill penalties.

I think this potential team is as solid as it comes and has no real holes or weaknesses. I also believe that this is fairly realistic and could bring the Leafs their first cup in over 50 years!
