    the term for Tavares and Carlson are not realistic, they are looking for 6-7 years at the minimum, CAR and NYI trades are solid Nos from them

    Tavares would be more valuable next year, he would get the highest pay this year and he might even win a cup. Carlson would get a more than fair contract for 2 less years and also might win a cup. The CAR and NYI trades are not that far off just add a pick or two if it makes you happy.

    Tavares may also break his hand next year and loses out on a pay day. High end players don't sign short term contracts and its the norm around the league, Leafs haven't showed they are immediate contenders, there are better teams that can give them the same money and longer terms, like San Jose and St Louis
    Adding mid range draft picks and prospects will never get you a Defense man like Hanifin, its like you won't sell Matthews for 10 second rounds
