I just didn't re-sign or qualify him, but I'd probably try to trade them to somewhere like the Islanders, Flyers or another goalie-needy team.

I just found this, so I was just messing around seeing what the Sabres' roster could look like...I haven't finished dabbling with this quite yet.

The Sabres are among the teams in need of improving their goaltenders. They have goaltenders in place up to the draft and the opening of free agency. Some goaltenders are in need in changes of scenery to prolong their careers, or have reached a point their careers in the National Hockey League are over.

I don't argue that, but I don't think they want to keep Lehner...they want someone new, someone who can be a mentor to Ullmark.

They want someone who will accept a backup role...Lehner wants to be a starter.

(*I like Lehner, I've supported him and rooted for him his whole time in Buffalo...but it's not my choice who stays or goes.)

Lehner and Ullmark can be starters in the National Hockey League. The Sabres' plan has been Lehner filling a need with Ullmark developing. The next step of the plan is for Ullmark to show what he has learned with Rochester and the American Hockey League with a permanent promotion to the National Hockey League.

The market for available goaltenders is thin this year. The Sabres will need to address their backup goaltender as Ullmark will be the starting goaltender. Should Lehner be expendable, the Sabres should receive calls of interest.
