Description
Not going to be popular on both sides I bet. Here's the logic:
- Ottawa unloads Ryan's massive salary and term and get Mark Stone's brother to help with resigning him. Mike Stone is also a very serviceable defensemen, so it's not like he can't play.
- Calgary gets to unload Brouwers contract (which is lower and shorter than Ryans), but are banking on Ryan rebounding in a new city. If he does, he is a good fit on the right side in the top 6.
The 2nd is to even out the trade.

CGY would be better after this deal, I think.

Now, can we get OTT to retain some salary on Ryan by adding a solid prospect? How about Mangiapane for $1.5M retention? Huh? Huuuuh??
