Description

------See my Ottawa post for other side of trade----------------------------------------------------------------------Dallas does not give any current 1st line or 2nd line forwards, nor does it give a 1st round draft pick, because of the young players included in the deal. Makes Dallas an immediate contender.
Also, if Dallas is positionned for a great cup run, Dallas still has it's 1st round pick to acquire a top rental player at the trade Deadline. Ottawa gets value for the medium future while keeping it's current cap hit low. Chances are Ryan and Paajarvi will have much better seasons and "keep with the program all season long" as they will be playing on an elite team and also will not face top opposition while playing on a 3rd line.
Included Blake Comeau in the trade: Ottawa is unable to attract free agents and needs players,. Also, this will not mess the Dallas locker room as Comeau has not played for Dallas yet.
Retained salary on Erik Karlsson's contract is to permit Dallas to stay Cap compliant for the 2018-19 season.
For season opening cap compliancy, Dallas can assign Chlapik to AHL as he is waivers exempt. Dallas would be under by $200k
