oilers trade with NYR

Created by: Klm751
Team: 2018-19 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 5, 2018
Published: Mar. 5, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
this is what the oilers would look like after the trade with the rangers that i made when i made what i think the rangers will look like next year, the oilers have to give up those roster players to free up cap space for this to work, the pick coming back will be 29th because i believe tampa will lose to pitt in the conference finals, i dont know too much about the oiler but from what i have researched it seems like this could work out for both sides, any thoughts from anyone who knows the oilers well?

Pulujarvi will for sure be a 20+ goal scorer next season barring injury, he is on a 17 goal pace right now playing 10min a night on the 3rd and 4th line with no PP time. Yamamoto is tearing it up in junior right now at a higher ppg then Draisaitl had. Draisaitl scored 51 points centering the first line the year after. Basically I expect Yamamoto and Pulujarvi to be the top 6 RW next year.
I have seen a majority of Cagguila's NHL games, and I believe he has the potential to be a really good 3rd line winger. He played well as our 1RW in the play offs last year, and has inconsistently shown flashes of the NCAA star he was. He is scoring at a 13 goal pace this season and people are still saying he is struggling (inconsistent line mates, injuries, not playing as well as he did in playoffs, healthy scratched, etc). Suffice to say his ceiling is higher than 13 goals considering he is only 23.
Benning has also had a bit of sophomore slump, but his rookie season last year, people were talking about how he was trending to be a top 4 dman or atleast a really good 3rd pairing dman. I wouldn't write him off yet, especially as he will cost between 1-2m, and we will want to keep him on a value contract after we can trade Sekera and Russell in summer 2019.
Ethan Bear is not quite ready for the NHL. I'd rather see him as a #1 in the AHL then a number 6/7 on the oilers for a year. Auvitu can fill that role for us for one more year.
Zuccarello is two years removed a 26 goal campaign, and is 30 years old. He would slot in at 3RW in our lineup. Considering all of this I wouldn't make the trade.
I don't mind trading Kassian, as he is 1m too much for a 4th line winger that is really inconsistent.
My guess would be Strome 3m Cagguila 1m Slepyshev 1m
Lastly, Chiarelli has already said he's trying to compete now, which means he's not looking for draft picks, but NHL prospects who are close to playing. Which means you probably won't see him make a trade 3 players for 1.
I don't know much about spooner, but I thought he was a center, with 4th line numbers? and 4.5m for his production is horrendous, almost as bad as Lucic. But... based on the lineup you gave, I will show you my starting lineup if I was the coach.

RNH McDavid Yamamoto
Lucic Draisaitl Puljujarvi
Khaira Strome Zuccarello
Aberg Spooner Slepyshev

hmm, spooner can be a center or a winger as he is good at both, but on the oilers he would be the 4th line center so he would be better on the wing, he is in no way a 4th liner lol if he wasnt hurt he would be on pace to have 60 points out of 82 games this year, he currently has 32 points in 43 games. goals arent everything with spooner and zuccarello as they are both passers more then shooters and 4.5 million for spooner is fair value as zucc also makes the same and they both can have 60 points. and if chiarelli wants to compete now wouldnt he like 2 players who are proven and ready now? the 29th pick is just there for value and to let you guys still have a first round pick this year, since the oilers want to win now and the rangers are rebuilding i would have taken big contracts like sekera and russell to free up the cap space instead of the young guys as they can still develop, the problem is sekera and russell have so much damn term left that they would still be on the rangers by the time the rebuild is over lol, the rangers have guys that are gonna get raises too so they cant take those contracts for that long, lastly with the cap rising strome is absolutely worth 4 million as a 30 point minimum center and a 50 point maximum, 1m for caggiula and slepyshev is a little low as well. and because chiarelli isnt the greatest of gms (as you probably know) i could see him making this deal to get better now with 2 proven guys rather than waiting for benning ( a 6th round pick) and caggiula (undrafted) to get better, because with the success rate of late round picks and undrafted players being very low i could see him not want to wait and get guys who can help now, why take the risk with the young guys who arent very high picks?

There is too much value going out for the Rangers to say yes to this. Switch the Tampa 1st to the NYR 2nd, and replace Kassian with a prospect, and they'd probably come around on it

It's essentially giving up a Top 6 F and a Middle 6 F, along with a 1st round pick, for a high pick, 4th line cap dump, a 13F, a bottom 4 dman, and a 7th.

My initial star rating was off, however, as I misread the 5th overall pick as 5th round pick. Rereading it, i'd give it 3*, potentially higher the changes I previously mentioned

right now boqvist is projected as the number 5 pick and hes a defenseman, while picks 1-3 will be nhl ready the rest of the top 10 is a toss up, so I wouldn't expect that number 5 pick to be ready until the 2019-2020 season, he will probably take a year in the minors to get used to the north American game after coming from Europe. and yeah that first is low but that's why zucc and spooner are there for value so that 5 is worth it and yeah the rest are cap dump players that (other than kassian) have some potential
