That MN trade has so many pieces, I feel like gardiner isn't someone we'd be interested in unless Suter's injury is a long term issue(thats assuming he'd sign with us long term). I think there's a fit there though, most people are talking a nylander dumba deal but I think spurge could work.

I'd never do a Dumba for Nylander trade

Cool. The Leafs need a top pair right handed D and they will have to give up significant pieces or a core piece to get it. This is just about finding equitable value for both teams to fit their needs. MN would ask a lot for Dumba as they should, less for Spurge but if Leopold is willing to do a quick rebuild, leafs have a lot of pieces to work with.

Dumba is not a top pairing D. Top 4? Yes but not top 2. If I'm trading Nylander I want a legit top 2 guy back. Nylander is a legit top line winger OR a 2nd line center. The versitillity of Nylander makes him more valuable then Dumba maybe even Spurgeon.

I mean unless you believe this year to be an aberration, he was 11th in the NHL in scoring for RHD, 19th overall, is a physical presence and is 23 years old. Picked 7th overall. Trust me I really hope we don't have to pay him like a top 2 D but I have no idea what the argument is saying he's not at this point. He makes mistakes defensively but still plays 23 min a night and should be on the first powerplay.

I do think it's a 1 off. The only way I see Dumba reaching top 2 I'd if Spurgeon is traded. Dumba won't be top 2 with him there and Wild can't trade him cause they view him as a top 2 but no one else does.

Suter is honestly our 3rd best defensemen, Spurge and Dumba obviously play the same side but i would say talent wise they're our top two. Im not sure around the league dumba won't be someone people would pay a serious price for, but that's about the only thing I disagree with you on. After trading away Leddy and Burns for almost nothing I assume leo will be cautious about Dumba

idk if he is a top pair d man or not but the leafs want a guy they can ride in the playoffs, don't need another offensive style defenseman

See that makes sense, not sure either Spurge or Dumba are your guy there. Maybe spurge with the right partner, he plays well in the playoffs but he's never been a true #1
