CGY 18-19

Created by: iAlexGutteridge

Initial Creation Date: May 29, 2018

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
In many ways the Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik line handcuffs the Flames into not making any moves for secondary scorers who would be an ill fit for the top line or too good for the 3rd. Treliving needs to double down on not having many high picks for the next two years and target speed on the wings. I would not be trading away the best player for the Flames in Hamilton, and it may be Brodie's last year with a perceived Sweetheart deal, so move him and include a pick for 60-point average Mark Stone who would add that killer 1 RW the Flames are looking for.

It's incredibly unlikely that the Leafs would want to part with Kapanen, but Sam Bennett's pedigree as a 4th overall pick may *trick* them into accepting. I really like what Kapanen could bring in PK ability and speed, and the same goes for Hagelin, but for that to go through, CGY may need to retain on Michael Stone.

Just a little bit of a play around, but the moves don't seem too far out of reason, but, looking at the team at the moment, if the Flames Bottom 6 plays like it did last season, it will be another miserable year in Calgary.

These are all way too much in Calgary's favour.

Screw the Triple M line. Time to break them up!
    Don't re-sign Stajan.
Need to add to the OTT trade to get Stone.

I like the Stone for Hagelin idea, but I doubt Pittsburgh wants to pay Stone $3.5 million to play their bottom pairing for two years. IIRC he'd be behind Letang and Schultz on the right side and I think they're happy with Ruhwedel on their bottom pair?

Stone and Kapanen would be really great players to add to CGY's lineup, but you won't get them at those prices.

I think Kapanen would fit very nicely in the middle 6 for CGY over the long-term. But I think that TOR might realize his value is even higher on that top line RW with Matthews.
