Trade Lee to get some D

Created by: IslesTime
Team: 2018-19 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 2, 2018
Published: Jun. 2, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
We are going to have to lose either Lee or Ebs so lets sell high and make a move to solidify the D. Rask and Nelson both need change of scenery and I added Casey to give Canes a solid PK and 3-4C. Sign DeHaan to a 1 year "prove you're healthy" deal and get Grubs from Caps. I have Ladd on top line with JT hoping he bounces back to the 20+ goal scorer he was.

I honestly do not think you have to lose either of those players. I played around with NYI, and I think you can find other ways to retain all of them. If you are curious, I have attached what I did below.

I also think it will cost you a lot more for Grubauer (which is why I would take a chance on Korpisalo and trade for him while his value is down) and apprarently Bellows needs another year, but the Faulk trade is a good move for both teams for sure.

They will be able to keep both. Buy out Clutterbuck, pay a 2nd or so for a team to take on Greiss or Cizikas. A third pairing D like Mayfield or Pelech are expendable. Those top two lines aren't going to be broken up IMO

While I really like Lee, I just dont know if I want to invest in him long-term (Lets see what JVR gets but Lee will prob cost close to $7m per) I prefer to keep Ebs (something like 4 yr $6m) plays up tempo game and very good two-way player. We need D and goal tending and this team while they may score a few less goals, will give up ALOT less. Also keep in mind we will need resign Beau, JHS and then Barzal (will get monster deal) after that.

I love Lee but I'd hate to be paying a one trick pony 6 or 7 + so I agree the time to sell is now . I used him in a deal for D. Hamilton(in my armchair trade) because most hockey boards seem to indicate the Flames are willing to move a D for a big scoring F . I'm not sure the Canes would want to deal with having to resign Nelson and worry about Lee expiring in 2019 but they might be into Zeeker for Rask straight up as it gets them out of long term contract that they may have regretted (Rask has alot of term left) .

I like your Grubauer move and the under the radar Comeau signing could add speed to the bottom six . I thought Wagner had better wheels but found he was a bit average so I think I'd look for a faster 4th liner there
