As a Flyer fan, I would change my allegiance if this trade happened. Absolutely abysmal.

I’m a Flyers fan myself, and I’m glad to see I wasn’t too kind to them, but I’m wondering why you think that? The only bona fide assets the Flyers lose here are Simmonds and Frost; they stand to gain a transcendentally talented defenseman.

You get rid of an immensely valuable player in Simmonds (yes I still believe he's crazy important to this team and will continue to be.) A prospect in Frost that could potentially hit BIG. And a first round pick. Yes you get Karlsson but you're also bringing in Bobby Ryan and dedicating 16-17M in cap space to these two players and where's the money to extend Provy or Knex or basically ANY player?

This roster leaves them with 13+ in room and more after a few more shitty contracts come off the books (most notably AMac and Weise).

Moreover, I’m optimistic enough about this team’s core to believe that the 2020 1st-rounder will end up being a 20th overall at best, meaning that the asset you’re wagering isn’t actually as valuable as it may immediately appear.

Yeah Karlsson makes 6.5 this year. Then you have to extend him for 8-10/yr.

So that’s a $3M dent in what will end up being like $24M in cap space
