Hopefully one more high pick in 2019

Description
It is pretty obvious that this teams is going to be bad next year. For that reason I don't see any rush in bringing young guys in. Pettersson is the only one that is ready because he doesn't have very mush left to prove outside of the NHL. As for guys like Hughes, Lind, Gaudette, Juolevi, Dahlen and all, it might be in the teams best interest to start them in the AHL or NCAA and bring those who deserve it after the deadline. By that point the team will be out of a playoff race and the kids can audition fro roles next year. Much of the defence (Edler, Del Zotto and Hutton) are on expiring contracts, this gives the Canucks an opportunity to overhaul this postion next year. Similarly many forward spots are also set to open up. This is a gap year before in which the Canucks will be terrible, similar to the Leafs the year the landed Mathews. If everything goes according to plan the Canucks could end up with a shiny first line center in Jack Hughes , plus even more depth on a solid prospect pool. This would essentially transform the Canucks instantly. Fore starters it would help this team attract better UFA's, but more importantly it would give the Canucks a bounty of talent in the forward ranks to go with a decent back end and a possibly elite goaltending tandem (Demko, DIpietro). In short suck this year and than hopefully make a splash next year.

  2. 2019 7th round pick (WSH)
  3. 2020 4th round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
Canucks have a surplus of depth forwards and not enough spots for their young guys. Gaunce doesn't bring much offence but is a cheap, two- way fourth liner, which could help the caps replace some of the depth guys they lost. In exchange the Canucks acquire two mid-round picks, plus another late pick in 2019. Management has shown to like players over picks, but given that the draft is in Vancouver they try this year to get as many picks as possible.

VAN
  1. Vala, Ondrej
  2. 2019 1st round pick (DAL)
  3. 2019 3rd round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
Canucks get picks, they get a prospect. This trade might not best reflect Tanev's value, but the Canucks would be better off figuring out the Tanev situation before possibly losing him for nothing or having his value decline further if he doesn't decide to resign.
DAL
  1. Tanev, Christopher
Additional Details:
The Stars were reportedly in on Tavares and Karlsson. They clearly want to make a splash. If the team stays healthy they could easily make the playoffs. Plus they have some quality young guys coming up. Regardless they need to maximize Seguin and Benn. SO they make moves come deadline day to help them compete in a brutal central division. They get creative with Vancouver and arrange a deal based primarily on conditional picks. The 1st round pick is conditioned on the Stars making the playoffs which would likely be the case given that they are making this trade, if they don't make the playoff; however, the pick becomes a 2nd rounder. The second pick is conditioned on if the Stars it to the second round of the playoffs, in which case the Canucks receive the 3rd round pick, however if the Stars make it to the Stanley Cup Finals and Tanev plays 50% of the games to that point than the pick becomes a 1st rounder for 2020. A final condition is if Tanev resigns with the Stars than the Canucks would also receive the 3rd round pick. If the Stars don't advance past the first round and Tanev doesn't resign than the Canucks get a 5th round pick. The Stars also give up a decent defensive prospect.

I like these moves, as a Canucks fan.
I am not entirely sure Dallas would give agree to that deal though.
