Mark Stone

Description
Stone would be a fantastic pickup for Calgary, and would give them a ridiculously deep forward group. Ottawa is in really bad shape right now, and its hard to see Stone wanting to stick around. I think the return to Ottawa is fair, they get two roster players to help them now (sadly Bennett is probably a 2nd liner on Ottawa right now), and two mid to high picks in two very strong upcoming drafts. Kylington is a risky prospect but Ottawa loves their swedes, and he does posess a very high ceiling.

When Smith goes down with an injury that defense looks fragile. Let s wait and see how this team gels. Then we can make adjustments.

In all fairness to Dorion, what has he done to prove otherwise? He lost Methot to Vegas, ended up trading Phaneuf anyways, traded Hoffman for almost nothing, mortgaged the future for a lateral move from Turris to Duchene, traded for and signed Burrows and he's one bad Karlsson deal away from getting canned.

OTT would take this package and could flip Hamonic to TOR in a 3-way deal very readily. There are a handful or teams that would be keen to get Hamonic. And it'd be a 1st round pick that came back plus a prospect for him.

So OTT would effectively be getting: Bennett + Kylington + 1st + 1st + 3rd + prospect for Mark Stone. That's a big young package for a team that is clearly going to start from scratch.

Have to factor in that Stone is likely going to arbitration, and if/when he does, he'll get a 1-year deal and be sitting a year away from UFA status where he could land a bigger contract than OTT is willing to pay. He was pretty clear in April that he would "assess the state of the organization" before signing his next contract. Dorion will be right back up against the wall with Stone after the Karlsson saga ends.

you realy have to wonder how much of it is Dorion and how much of it is Melnyk meddling, it has come out that the whole Turris thing is 100% melnyk not wanting to pay him and force Dorion to trade him.
