Vs Bostonto small to win Again

Description
This is a crazy idea that i do not think will happen.

I love the knew speed/skill NHL. It makes for a more interesting brand of regular season hockey that the Leafs are surely built for. However people are quick to forget that the playoffs are a very different game and biggest team in the NHL won the cup last year with their 4 line ie. Devonte Smith Pellys 230lb frame playing a heavy forecheck and matching his seaon goal totals in the playoffs. Trevor lewis in LA also comes to mind. Chis Kunitz also comes to mind. My point is if the leafs need to get bigger in some aspect for me the quickest and most cost effective way is in the bottom 6 on the wing. This means Ennis , Lindholm and yes Brown would have to be looked at. If Brown was 6ft3 210lbs with the same skill set it would ideal.

Would we rather Zaitsev at 4.5 for another 5 seasons or Lucic at 4.5 for another 4 seasons. Its a question worth asking by the Leafs with teams like Boston and washington in their way.

I can see your logic here. As a bruins fan, i would hate playing against lucic in the playoffs and ive been thinking the leafs 4th line needs to beef up in size to compete more in the playoffs. However i would rather have zaitzev for 4.5 than lucic. Interesting proposal though

Please watch a Leafs game! Zaitsev has played pretty good and great since Muzzin has been the the fold. Lucic is a bum that should have been out of the league 3 yrs ago. Hockey IQ weak with this one....

That extra year of Zaitsevs term sells me on it. For me its the appeal of having the toughest man in the League (-Big Z) riding shotgun against Wilson if it happens and the 1st round Bruins who will dominate the physical game against the leafs. If we had 2 more Hymans to put on the 4th line i would be less likley to worry as he plays like hes 6ft3. I also believe that Lucic still has game left if hes in the right situation. Motivation/confidence is a crazy thing. Its clear he would waive his NMC and be on the first train out of town if a team like the leafs wanted him. Hell he might even start walking east the min he hears

This is a great trade, Leafs go from being one of the silkiest teams, to one of the bulkiest and baddest teams with Lucic and Khaira. But it doesn’t fix their defenceman problems.

This is true. Its is becoming clear that improving the defence will have to be done from within as the trades just do not make sense for the Leafs at this point. Waiting for our prospects is likley the solution. Plug holes with veteran guys at low cost/term. The nice thing is our top 2 prospects are defensemen.

Top 3 I like Rosen better than Lilligren, he is faster and stronger on the puck.

Also 3 seasons ago Lucic had 20 goals and 50 pts as Edmonton made the playoffs he then followed that with 6 pts in 13 playoff games. If ur going to criticize a guy who has watched every Leaf game over the past 10 years u better come with better info then that.

Just Rosen is a left shot. Rosen will be givin every opportunity to make the team next year and everything i have seen has showed that will be the case. Rosen is also older and clearly closer to NHL ready then any dman we have

To answer your question. The Leafs and every other team in the NHL would rather have Zaitsev at 4.5 then Lucic. Zaitsev is a good number four D-man. When he doesn't have to pick up after Gardiner's follies he plays fine. I'm sure you have seen that after watching for so many years. Lucic is a dinosaur in today's game with one of the worst contracts in the NHL. Try to sucker a Canucks fan and make a trade for Loui Eriksson.
