Both Marner's and Johnsson's deals are too low. Johnsson said no to a similar offer back at the trade deadline, and if he said no then I doubt he would say yes to a ~300k/year pay raise. Marner will be signing for north of 10 million AAV if it's on a long term deal (6 years or more). Skinner just got 9 million for 63 points, and yes he was a UFA and yes he scores more goals than Marner but I doubt Skinner will ever eclipse the 70 point mark in his career and have the overall impact Marner will. It's a classic case of having an amazing season in your contract year, but good for Skinner I've always liked him as a player.
Marner will easily eclipse 100 pts in his career, probably more than once too, so the Leafs have to pay him for both his current output and projected output. I know that a long-term deal for Marner starting at 10 million handcuffs the Leafs, but that's not Marner's problem. Dubas has to get creative and make it all work - should be interesting.
