Don't think the Flames move Ryan, he was one of the top 4th line C's last year and is our only right handed C. Dynamic in the face of circle, drove play on a line with Hathaway and Mangiapane. More valuable than people think. Same trade with Jankowski instead would work for me

Hard pass on bringing back Russel as he is a $3.5M bottom pairing defender in this scenario. The Flames literally just bought one out in Stone. This move offers Calgary no cap savings and gives them a pretty bad player who generates nothing offensively or defensively in return for a decent 3rd line C / great 4th line C (Russel v. Ryan).

Defensive depth is not an issue as they can plug Kylington in the lineup, already have Davidson signed as a LHD in the pressbox, and Valiev who has a few NHL games in the AHL. Worst case scenario they can probably bring back Schlemko on a two-way deal to have another LHD.

Ryan's value is very understated, this would be a horrible trade for CGY.
