Description
Give the Leafs one of the best RHD prospects around so they can develop him into a piece of their core, and a quality young 40+ point winger in Labanc to fill Nylander's roster spot. Also frees up a few mil for the Leafs to make other moves. Demko for a 2nd and 3rd (assuming Vancouver re signs Markstrom and doesn't need him) and Strome for Sorensen and the Sharks early 2nd as well.

Personally i don’t like Merkley’s attitude and he’s an OFD which is not exactly what toronto is looking for. I like the idea though

The value for Demko is pretty good but if they do trade him it makes more sense to package him with Loui to get rid of his contract

I see the concern, but he's been getting a ton of praise on his attitude adjustment recently from what Ive heard. He was a +20 last year, with the right development Im sure he could turn into a two way guy. Potential is through the roof, could be exactly what Toronto needs in a year

This is probably fair but it would hurt, I think Merkley would crumble in toronto and I really want him to succeed

I know thats what Vancouver is holding out for, but with the flat cap I just don't see too many teams being able to do that for you. If that doesn't end up being an option I think a 2nd and a 3rd could be a solid move for both teams if you keep Markstrom, especially with DiPietro in the system already

But for a young top line winger that can put up 60+ points on an extremely reasonable contract? Worth it. Toronto needs a RHD a whole lot more than we do

I mean most Detroit fans have made it clear they're willing to take Loui for Demko and a pick. But sure if that deal isn't on the table I think they may consider it

Thats very true. Its a good deal. Merkley has real talent though it could end up being a lost trade

He plays for the Knights with McMichael, Foudy, Stranges, Evangelista, etc. It's not hard to be a +20 for London. In fact he was the 4th best defensmen for them looking at +/-. Besides it's not a very good stat to access a players defensive abilities.

If we can’t get a solid RHD prospect or a 1st for Demko I’d accept this as a last resort forsure
