Trade - If Tyler Johnson Clears Waivers

Description

Suppose Tyler Johnson clears waivers and is bound for Syracuse; his 5M cap hit would become 3.925M, and I would deem him as a cap dump at that point. Given he's from Spokane, I wonder if he would be open to a trade to VAN at this point. If so, here is a mutually beneficial trade; a swap of equal cap hit cap dumps. VAN takes on Johnson and sends Benn and Roussel, who would be waived by Tampa right after the trade. Either someone picks them up, which would remove them from Tampa's books or worst-case scenario, they end up in Syracuse with their 5M cap hit counting as 2.85M, which provides Tampa an additional 1.075M in cap relief.

Johnson in Syracuse counts as 3.925M against the cap, whereas Benn and Roussel would count as 2.85M combined against the cap in Syracuse; essentially, Tampa would have an additional 1.075M in cap space.

I mean to @Hedman77 ’s point, Johnson does have some value, so maybe some draft or prospect capital will have to go the other way but the structure of this is pretty clever
