Probably not worth a third at this point. Maybe a 4th or 5th. Was a 7th round pick in 2015.
Was the AHL defenseman of the year a few years ago. Had some unfortunate injuries (car accident during training camp) that has made it hard for him to crack the roster. Played a few games for the Jets this year and was decent. Is a good puck moving guy who is pretty cerebral. He's just a little small. Certainly has potential to be a bottom 4 guy in the NHL if he pans out. He showed this year that he can play 13ish mins a night and not look out of place.
He needs a fresh start though, it just doesn't look like it's gonna happen in Winnipeg. He likely won't stand out anywhere, but he can play. Buffalo would probably be pleased if they ended up with him, for a reasonable price.

Thanks for the thoughtful response. Yeah a third might be too much. 5th or higher and id be fine with. Sabres will need bodies that can play decent hockey.

Wouldn't be surprised if Niku was thrown into a bigger trade. Trading him for a late round pick wouldn't be worth much to the Jets, so adding him into a bigger deal would make sense. But on his own, he's not worth too much.
