Vegas is exempt from the draft and if Pittsburgh exposes Zucker they won't need compensation

Spaced and forgot Vegas is exempt, though I do think they could eat half of Fluery for a couple of picks outside of the expansion. As far as Zucker goes, I think he’s the best pick but I think anyone over around 4 or 5 mill is going to be viewed as a “favor” because of the flat cap. It’s late and it very well could be nothing consider it’s Blueger or ZAR otherwise.

Anaheim played serious hardball in trade talks with teams who wanted Manson before the deadline. Not sure why they would expose him now when they could have received assets for him a few months ago. (?) Methinks he is protected.

And what's the deal out of Washington? Are you proposing the Capitals trade a 1st Rounder AND Vanecek (a player the Capitals are hoping to keep, somehow) to ensure the Kraken select Oshie? Doesn't make sense.

Manson could be. I went Fleury in my protection because of the controllable years he has and Manson could walk after this year.

As far as Washington goes, I’m not sure on the valuation to take Oshie. Because though he has produced still, that contract is gonna age like milk in my opinion. 1st and Vanecek may be too high, but Washington’s losing a goalie here regardless, whether they trade one before or Seattle takes one. I just think Washington prioritizes cap with Ovie due.

They should have traded Manson, then. Maybe still should if their plan is to protect Fleury. Rumor was that Anaheim wanted to keep him unless another team offered the moon. There's likely still a market, although a softer one. Makes no sense just to give him away now. Shattenkirk and Larsson still give them d-men who meet exposure requirements.

So you don't put much faith in MacLellan saying it's unlikely they expose him, giving Oshie high praise as to his value with the team? If that contract is worrisome for Caps, might very well be for the Kraken, also. In that case, not sure a (likely) late first rounder gets it done, because as you pointed out, Seattle can take Vanecek with or without any side deal. Maybe the caps throw out multiple picks / prospects to have the Kraken both take on salary AND not touch their goaltending. (?)
