Description
I hate how this season ended, but I honestly think that management isn’t going to make many changes to this team. I hope they do the same thing that Tampa did after losing to Columbus and learn from this (they probably won’t).

Trades
1.

  1. 2021 6th round pick (VAN)
VAN
  1. Holl, Justin
Additional Details:
Holl is going to be 30 this year. I love the guy, but it’s time to give Lilly a shot on the roster, plus to see what Dermott can do in a top 4 role (and let’s face it, Benning would probably make this trade for a 3rd or 4th)
2.
TOR
SEA
  1. Kerfoot, Alexander
Additional Details:
I think that the Leafs are gonna go a 4/4 protection with Dermott ultimately being the 4th defenceman protected. From there I think Seattle takes Kerfoot over Holl.

Holl could easily fetch a 3rd.
He’s a 4/5 dman on a relatively cheap contract.

I severely doubt Vesey is brought back. He was waived for a reason.

Galch probably isn’t brought back for that price either.

I assume Engvall is traded.

And I’m still unsure of Hyman coming back. There’s better ways to spend our money and we can actually recoup some draft picks if we trade his rights to Edmonton who is rumoured to be interested in trading for his rights.

Sign Hyman if you can get him at 4.25M. As the # gets closer to 5M I say no thank you.

Vesey is not coming back unless cheaper than 900K (last year salary), was waived for a reason, not bad, but not a difference maker.

Galch would be great if brought back right at 1M or same as last year but in no way has he earned a raise, especially after that OT blunder that cost game 6! Almost as bad as Dermott's game 5 OT blunder.... oh wait he got a raise, uh oh.

Granlund should get more than 3M. I also think the Leafs could use him but only if they find a solid 3rd line C first.

I think that the Leafs are going to do everything they can to bring Hyman back, he’s a key penalty killer and his work ethic has rubbed off on his teammates (eg, Matthews laying the body a bit more the past couple seasons)

I get Vesey not coming back, I honestly think it could be a number of players in that role, but the Leafs don’t have anyone currently in house who I feel can fill that role besides Engvall, so I think they pick a guy up in FA for roughly that amount, I just used Vesey because his name popped out at me.

The Galch contract is the absolute max I think he should get for the “prove it” type contract that he got last year. I think the reason why Dermott got the raise that he did was because he’s younger and is generally a solid player (who makes a big mistake at the worst moments). And Galch doesn’t have those upsides going for him

I could have still signed Granlund for more, I settled on $3 mil because idk how he plays or what he’s like, but I have heard good things about him and I didn’t want to overpay on an unknown commodity (to me at least)
