Rangers aren't trading Buch... especially plus a first for an upcoming RFA. The only way I could see Buch going to St. Louis is if Parayko is coming back.

First off, the draft class isn't strong this year. So the Rangers first, which will most likely be in the 20s, is more like a early 2nd in most drafts. Being reluctant to give up Buch is more understandable. But getting a premier offensive defenseman will still cost a lot even as a rental. You'll get that D-Man for the playoffs, and a 2 month grace period to try and woo him to resign in the offseason. That senario, albeit risky, could lessen the loss of losing Buch.

I get that the first is more like a second but Buch is the only elite, high ceiling prospect the Rangers have, unless you include Vesey and I'd argue that Buch is going to be a lot better than him... I just don't see them giving up their best forward prospect for a rental defenseman that they may sign in the offseason.
