can't see the sens willing to do this whatsoever. Wld be curious what their fans think

Edit: maybe a Brannstrom for Girard wld be more likely imo

Yeah Ottawa doesn’t need another Dman like that, they could use someone like Parayko, Pesce, Carlo and a RD but not at the expense of a core player. Girard doesn’t fit DJ’s system and we don’t need a LD

id say a hard no, girard is a great player but not worth the young t6 RW, a good young NHL player and second the sens are giving up, especially considering where he actually fits in the lineup. LD is the sens strength and its not really even close

Also, why would CO give up Girard no matter what. He is a great dman. Use that 4 mil to sign Byram in a couple years instead of Gio. Also, resign Kuemper. Holtby is pretty washed now.

That doesn’t move the needle for a Girard trade at all. Girard is locked in for 5 more years at 5M, that’s gold.

Why would COL have any interest in Branstrom? He can’t make the Sens and would immediately be behind Barron in the Avs system. There would have to be a MASSIVE add by OTT to make a Girard trade happen.

I agree that Colorado shouldn’t want Brannstrom but he’s better than Barron

Same, While Girad would be a boost to the Blue line, with the likes of Sanderson coming and having Chabot it doesn't make sense to have another LD like Girard.
Also, there is no way the sens are giving up Batherson alone for this offer with his AAV in the new deal.
Formenton has been playing like a top 6 forward this season so is no throw-in as well.

You forgot the part where Girard isn’t exactly solid defensively , meaning DJ wouldn’t like him

Ottawa isn't a good fit for Colorado if they are looking to trade Girard. They should look to trade him for a RD

Same for Ottawa, Batherson has 6 years at 4.975 AAV

Not adding Alex Formenton and a 2nd to get a small LD at probably the only position they won't need to upgrade.

Heck they have a similar guy (not as dynamic, still unproven) that they don't even desire.

This. Girard is a better version of Brannstrom. They don't even play EB when they have him available. We can definitely be confident that they wouldn't trade 2 forwards that they are extremely high on for a Brannstrom upgrade.

i don’t see why they’d move girard before byram’s ELC is up, at the very least. i don’t know if they’ll have the money to keep toews after his deal expires. seems like if they’re going to move anyone, it would be him after that ELC is up just to get back assets since he has less term

Id do Girard for Kubalik+ (he would have to extend with decent term and AAV though)

I think Toews is quite a bit better than Girard, plus he plays in all situations. He has less term but also a lower AAV for the next 3 years and I think he would extend in COL. Id definitely make him a priority and move other players out if more cap space is needed

Toronto could be in the conversation

If Rielly asks for more than 7mill than Dubas may go trade for his replacement

Girard could be a target if Colorado makes him available

I was thinking Chabot Girard and Sanderson would be great on the left side, and after a couple years if Sanderson is looking like a solid top 4 guy then you also have the option to move Girard to the right side so all three of those guys can log top 4 mins

Batherson's AAV is good but so is Girard's. With how D men have been paid recently 5M for a D man of Girard's caliber is just as much of a bargain as Batherson's 4.975M, if not more so. Both have the same term too

If you want to take Formenton out thats fine, replace him with a different prospect or pick

Girard for Nylander? Thats really the only guy that makes sense coming back for COL. The term would be unbalanced though, 5 years remaining for Girard after this season and only 2 for Nylander

Really having all three on LD will get crowded and hard to give Giradi and Sanderson the ice time they will need to develop. Would rather keep Batherson with how thin the RW is at this point right now, and the sens are likely to have 2 players on their off wing at RW because of it by next year. We will see how Formenton does Thursday on the 2nd line playing off with Stuzle, that could be the future 2nd line with Stuzle - Pinto - Formenton. The speed alone on that line makes me hope it works.

PSSSSH are you kidding me, with the leafs cap crunch and their weakness on D with the Avs offered up Girard with his term for Nylander and his term, the leafs should snatch that up without thinking twice.
Nylander's spot will be easier to fill.

Probs would be picks and some of our A prospects unless Dubas or whoever goes

Kk the big 4 experiment is over Nylander bye.

Dont think Colorado would need to be to concerned with WN as he would probs extend as who wouldnt want to play with Mackinnon

Weakness on D?

Um our defense is good now lul

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl
Sandin-Dermott
Liligren

Is comparable to many top dcores in the NHL especially the top 4. Muzzin is a good 2-way Dman, Rielly is one of the best offensive Dman, Brodie has been solid at both ends, Holl is an excellent puck mover, and Sandin with Dermott do well as the bottom pairing guys.

Even without Rielly go sign Leddy or Lindholm and either gets paired with Brodie.

i would think it would be a matter of whether sakic actually gives him the money he’d want. it’s kinda like the klingberg situation — are you going to give a guy 6.5+ (probably somewhere near 7-7.5) with term after his age 30 season? i love toews but i don’t know where the cap is going to be, and i think that’ll be a tough one for sakic.
